Why You Should Be Writing In A Journal

Yes, I still keep a journal. No I don't write things like "Dear Diary" and other cliché, preteen phrases. I don't write in it every day, nor do I make it a priority to write in it every day. I simply have one for when I want to write something down. I've found that while I may not write in it every day, I do often find myself writing ideas or thoughts down a few times a week. It has become a keeper of my thoughts, which I would otherwise forget.

Like I said before, I don't write sappy, heartfelt entries, which may have you asking, "Then what does she write?" Have you ever gone to the store and forgot something? I've found that writing items down in my journal as I need them makes it much easier for me to remember. No longer do I have to face the frustration of making multiple trips to the store, which is amazing. Yeah you could just make a list on a Post-It note or something, but writing it in a journal is much more fun. Besides you look really awesome and intelligent when you pull out a small journal in public.

It's also fun to write down your thoughts and look at them later. If you're anything like me, you forget a lot of the things you think about throughout the day. For example, I often think of the best ideas for articles and papers in the shower, which means I often forget them a few hours later. I've found that writing them down right after I get out of the shower is my best bet. It's also just fun to write down things and look at them later. You'll be surprised at what you may write down.

It's also fun to color pictures in your journal. Since adult coloring books have become such a huge deal, you can hardly go to a store without seeing them everywhere. But why waste money when you can color your own pictures? Admittedly they probably won't look as good as the ones in the coloring books, but you're saving a lot of money and wasting more time.

It seems like we are constantly on our phones or laptops, so it's nice to actually sit down and write something. Whether you decide to use the journal casually like I do or everyday, you will find that it's a great stress relief. Taking time for yourself is important, so you should make time to write in your journal if thats what you enjoy doing. While you may not think of yourself as a person who writes in a journal, you'll find that writing in one can be enjoyable and helpful at the same time.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
