I consider myself to be a night owl. Aside from when I am at school, where I usually go to sleep at a decent time (whatever time you consider a ‘decent’ time to be), I can practically stay up all night. I do not know why the nighttime has such a special aura connected to it, but as I grow older, I am learning to appreciate it more.
The nighttime is very peaceful. There have been countless times in which some of my closest friends and I have sat outside my dorm during the night until 3 or 4 a.m. just talking about nothing and everything. Sometimes, we went to Royal Farms for a slushy or a donut and then came right back outside to our favorite bench. The weather didn’t bother us much. It was cold most of the time we would stay out there. Nevertheless, we stayed.
I love the smell and crackling of campfires at night. Stargazing and campfires are definitely two of my favorite things that I enjoy about life. My family and I go camping often, so we are always outside making s’mores and telling jokes. It’s the little that I really enjoy about the night, life, and how we only get to experience some things once.
Amusement parks at night are a whole different ballgame. When you get on a roller coaster in the dark, most times, you can’t even see the track and you eventually don’t know what way you’re going or twisting and turning. This definitely adds to the thrill. Amusements parks light up at night with the most beautiful lights on the rides and various displays. Don’t forget about fireworks and staying until the park closes to get on the one ride you’ve been dying to get on all day and finally do so because there’s no line. We did that the at Disney last year and didn’t regret it at all.
Also, I tend to organize (or attempt to organize) my life at night. I work from home for my internship and I complete most to all of my hours throughout the night while listening to music in my headphones. Usually, the rest of my family is asleep or preoccupied with their own work, so I am more content with being by myself and watching a movie or two before I actually go to sleep.
So, the next time the weather is nice and you’re up for it, go outside at night. Please go outside at night. Grab a friend or a group of friends. Take a walk. Sit in a car a talk after a long drive. Just do something and I promise if you do it at night, it will bring you peace. You and your friends will the best and the most chill conversations.
I really really really love the night. It is just so comforting and quiet and I appreciate every moment I get to spend outside at night.
And yes. I wrote this article at night.
