For some people, it's so easy to hear that Harry Styles, a member of One Direction, has decided to go solo and immediately decide that they're never going to listen to any of his music. They'll think, "He's just another member of a boy band now trying to have a solo career," or "I didn't like One Direction's music in the first place, so I know I won't like his music."
Some people will automatically label Harry and his music as a certain stereotype and possibly ignore it because of that. Personally, I believe that by ignoring Harry Styles and his first solo album, you are turning your back on the start of what is going to be a long and successful solo career.
Harry's solo sound is very different from anything One Direction has ever released, which is a good thing for some people and a not-so-good thing for others. There is barely a trace of stereotypical pop in his music, with each of the ten songs having its own eclectic vibe. The album resembles an old-school pop-rock record, something majorly lacking in today's industry. Harry's album offers a refreshing and new feel that everyone can appreciate and enjoy.
He is not your typical male pop star. Harry's physical style and appearance differ from his peers, a quality that makes him stand out in a good way. Harry stands for acceptance, equality, and love, which he constantly proves time after time again. His integrity is clear, making him the best role model for anyone and everyone.
Even if you were never a fan of One Direction or believe that you have no interest in what music Harry Styles releases, you are truly missing out if you decide to skip out on this self-titled album. There is something both mysterious and special about his voice, his music, and simply Harry himself that makes you eager to learn more about him and the origins of his songs. His music will keep you on the edge of your seat, leaving you to wonder what he truly means by "it's a sign of the times," and with who he desperately pleads, "meet me in the hallway." With his solo debut, Harry shows he is vulnerable, just as we all can be sometimes, and that being vulnerable is okay.
Don't believe me? You'll just have to listen to find out for yourself. I promise you won't regret it.
