Let's face it, we have all been hurt by someone in our lives. Whether it was your best friend, your significant other, or a family member; we've all been there. I find that one of the hardest things to overcome is absolute forgiveness. I, myself, have been in situations where I felt that forgiveness would never be achieved. But, I've come to learn that forgiveness is the most important thing to lead a happier life, and to really move on.
Some may think that forgiveness makes one weak, however, this is not at all true. No matter how badly someone hurts you, forgiving them does not make you any less of a person. Yes, you should stick up for yourself. But, it takes a truly strong person to say "I forgive you" and to move forward.
How many times have we been betrayed and never forgave? The burden that one carries with them sometimes lasts forever. You should never carry the anger or sadness that comes from being hurt by someone. For your own sake, forgive and let go. They may feel bad about it forever, but you don't have to.
Some may never even get the apology that they deserve after being wronged. But sometimes, you just have to learn to accept the apology you never got. As difficult as this may sound, it is completely achievable. Forgive them and forgive yourself. You can move forward without hearing the words, "I'm sorry."
Learn to accept apologies, no matter how hard it can be. What's really hard is carrying the pain that comes along with holding grudges. You do not need to keep this person in your life if they really did hurt you. But you do need to forgive them, and yourself, in order to keep living your life.
Beyond forgiveness, you should never forget the lessons learned. Each time you are wronged, there are wonderful life lessons to take away from it. It may not be clear at first, but in time, it will all come together for you. Although being hurt can be a very negative experience, you will eventually be thankful for all of it.
"Forget what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you."
