I'm sure that we're all disappointed that this reality television show of an election is coming to a close. At a certain point, I was unable to tell if the debates were real or if I was watching a ''Saturday Night Live'' skit. This election has been annoying and childish and there have been times when I thought "if these are my choices I might as well not vote", but it does not matter if you don't like the choices it is very important that you still choose. This election has been historic for many reasons: grown men argued about their "size" on national television, a candidate announced the wrong date to go vote, thousands of people called for the 19th amendment to be repealed, it's been ugly. Every election young people are notoriously the least likely demographic to show up to vote, but it is so important for that to not be the case this election.
Being able to vote is a right that we take for granted too often. A lot of people fought to get us this right, and ladies, even more people fought to get us the right to have a voice and so we owe it to them to use that voice. But, even more than we need to use our voices, we need to use them the right way. Don't go in a pick someone because there is an R or a D next to their name, look into it. The people you're voting for want you to pick based on party, that makes it easy but being an elected official should never be easy, it should be a privilege.
This election may have no good option, but there are many reasons to still go and vote anyway: one, this is not only a presidential election and if you're going to hate the president you should definitely choose congressmen and women who you trust and agree with. Two, even if you don't like either candidate I'm sure you like one more than the other, and it is your right to pick the lesser of two evils. Three, if you don't vote you can't complain about the results.
Of democratic countries, The United States has one of the lowest voter turnouts. The more people who vote, the more representative the vote will truly be. Right now the most likely demographic to vote, with about 80 percent coming to vote, are older, wealthy, white people and so during election season the candidates want to appeal to older, wealthy, white people. The more other demographics vote, the more they will hear about solutions to the problems that they face.
The presidential vote happens November 8th, just a few days away and it is very important that you find your way to the polls that day because you are the only person who can voice your opinion.
