2005 was a crazy year. The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl, "Star Wars Episode III" was desperately trying to save the franchise after the messes that were "Episodes I and II," and "American Idol" was still relevant to society. However, the most important thing that happened that year was definitely the creation of everyone's favorite video-sharing website, YouTube.
That's right. YouTube was founded 10 years ago, and still manages one of the most popular media services around. Not to mention that it's my personal favorite past time for when I'm just trying to relax. Although it's extremely easy to procrastinate doing your homework when you attempt to only watch one video, but instead ending up watching 20, there are plenty of reasons for why everyone should be in love with YouTube.
One of the many reasons is something that I already said; YouTube is just a great way to relax, and there are tons of different types of videos to watch. So whether you love comedy, makeup, movies, or even just listening to people talk about life, there's going to be something that you're sure to love. And these videos are such a great way to wind down at the end of the day as you watch your favorite YouTuber talk about whatever it is you love.
For example, Jaclyn Hill has to be my favorite beauty guru. Her channel, which ranges from tutorials, hauls, and favorites videos, is the the perfect blend of learning something new to just feeling like you're hanging out with your best friend. Hill's bubbly personality always ends up being what I look forward to at the end of the day, and her smart beauty tips make everything even better.
That's another thing, There is so much that you can learn just from watching YouTube videos. Now, this does completely depend on who you watch and finding the YouTubers who are right for you, but I can honestly say that a lot of what I've learned about certain topics has come from YouTubers. Similarly to how Jaclyn Hill taught me everything I needed to know about makeup, Chris Stuckmann taught me about movies. I've always loved movies, so I often found myself watching film reviews just because I found them interesting. Chris Stuckmann is a film critic who puts his heart and soul into every video he makes, and his passion for film shows through in each and every one of them.
After a while, I found that while I was enjoying the videos, I was simultaneously learning about film. I was learning about plot and character development and camera angles and screenwriting, all while just flipping from video to video. I can truly claim that a lot of what I've learned about movies, a subject that I love, has come from YouTube. Could I have just as easily picked up a film book instead? Sure. But, the truth is, I didn't even know that I was that interested in film theory and criticism at first. I just really liked movies. It wasn't until I became obsessed with watching reviews on YouTube that I realized that I have a genuine passion.
That's the great thing about YouTube. You discover new things everyday. And whether that thing is a new cat video that makes you smile or a whole new interest that you discovered, it's clear that the world of YouTube is an important outlet for all types of people. You just need to find your realm and click on a video.
