Why You Need Your Mom

She did more than just give birth to you, which was enough in itself.

Why You Need Your Mom

Mother’s Day is coming up, so most of us think of now as a time to show our appreciation for our mother’s. But of course, one day of the year is not the only time you need and appreciate your mom, even if it’s the only time you say it. Something in us will always be a child who needs their mom, just like they will always look at us as their baby.

They always find what you need. Here you are, frantically searching your house trying to find that one item. Your mom will know exactly where it is or how to find it. For my mom, she usually put it in some random place that doesn’t make sense, but nonetheless, she knows where she put it or where I stuck it.

They always feed you. I mean, of course, she’s your mom, she’s supposed to feed you but honestly, think of how much your mom gets you food. My mom is notorious for forgetting to pull something for dinner out of the freezer for dinner, or telling me as I’m already almost home that there is nothing there for dinner. But she always pulls something together to cook or offers to make me a grilled cheese or something.

They know everything about you. Sometimes more than you probably want them to know, sure. Let’s face it, moms are nosey. But they know you. They’ve been there for every step of your life. They know when you're upset or angry, and normally know just what to do in these situations.

They try. Sometimes too hard. My mom has always called herself the cool mom. Now whether or not that is true, she has always tried to be there for me and provide for what I’ve needed... She would drive me and my friends around. My house was the center for getting ready for dances. Whether it be gifts on Christmas, or doing your homework at the kitchen table, or as you get older money to help with gas or college; mothers are always there to help.

Mother knows best. I always think of the song from Tangled, the mother saying “Mother knows best, listen to your mother,” And like the mother in tangled it’s possible that your mom isn’t always right about everything. No one is, we’re all humans here. But more often times than not, your mom has been right in whatever advice or rules they have given to you.

They’ll always love you. Your mom has loved you since the day you were born, if not before as they carried you. No matter how much we grow up, mom’s will always think of you as their little baby, and will love you as such. Nothing you do, no matter how bad, your mom will love you. She can get really angry and upset sure, but she still loves you. I think me and my brother have set a perfect example of this for my mom.

There is no one or will there ever be someone who is exactly like your mom.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
