Everyone loves pop music, even if you don’t like to admit it. It’s catchy, it’s fun, and it puts you in a great feel good mood. Girlbands are an important segment of pop music, especially for teenage girls. However, our generation doesn’t seem to defining girlband… yet. Little Mix, which consists of members Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson, is on the rise to be the next big girlband of our generation. They’ve already made it big in Europe and are about to become the next big thing in America. Little Mix is exactly what our the music industry needs right now: a talented, inspirational girlband for teenage girls to look up.
Little Mix is a UK based girlband that was discovered on UK XFactor in 2011. Each member of Little Mix auditioned for XFactor as a solo artist but ended up being placed in a group together by the judges, similar to what happened to One Direction the season prior. Little Mix wound up winning 1st place and XFactor and have been a releasing music, performing live, and building their fanbase ever since.
Little Mix captures the epitome of pop music with upbeat music, catchy lyrics, and powerful messages that promote girl power, happiness, and independence. In addition, each band member is extremely talented. Each member of Little Mix has a unique sound and impressive vocal range. Not to mention, their harmonies are absolutely flawless and will leave you in awe! The most impressive thing bout Little Mix is their ability to harmonize and be perfectly in key for every live performance.
Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jade, and Jesy are also incredible role models for young girls. They really stress the importance of friendship and girl power. For instance, after Perrie Edwards had her heartbroken by Zayn Malik she was able to bounce back for confident than ever with the help of her bandmates. Little Mix also values the importance of girl power and helps their fans realize their self-worth and motivate them to become more confident.
So if Little Mix is talented and has had so much success why haven’t you heard of them? Well they are a UK based band and have had trouble breaking into the music scene in America. This isn’t uncommon since it is more difficult for girlbands to emerge in the industry, especially in America. But based on their talent, new album release, and upcoming opportunities to break into the American music scene I have a feeling that that will change soon.
