Why Winter is Literally the Worst
autoguide

Winter is seriously the worst. Yeah, we get winter break and holidays and all that, but the hellish weather is pretty hard to bear.

If you live in a warm climate where you don't experience freezing, snowy winters, you may not realize just how lucky you are. Winter in the colder regions is terrible. It's almost always gloomy, it's freezing cold, and nature is basically trying to kill you.

First of all, we have the cold. I don't mind a little chilly wind now and then, but winter is completely different. The wind makes your eyes water, and then the freezing temperatures literally freeze those tears to your face. Brutal! "Bundle up more" people always say. But in reality, no amount of layers will ever be able to keep the cold out. Put on as many sweaters, coats, leggings, snow pants, boots, gloves, and hats as you like. And unless you enjoy walking around looking like a bank robber, there is no way to protect your face. There is no escaping the cold.

Secondly, and worst of all, we have the snow and ice. I believe that these instruments of death were created just so nature can make sure we always know who is in charge. Sure, snow is just fine when you're a kid. You can have snowball fights, build snow forts, and best of all, you get snow days. Once you grow up though, you stop getting snow days, and you actually have to drive your car daily in the horrific, slippery madness. It is no fun at all anymore, and more likely to bring on panic attacks than any joy.

If you're in school, it is even harder to get excited for things like the holidays and winter break (you know, literally the only good things about winter) because when December arrives, it's not all fun and games and candy canes. December means finals, and finals means no sleep and stress levels through the roof. Why do schools inflict this additional torture on us during this already awful time?

Finally, the lack of sun in the winter is depressing. Say goodbye to sunshine, and welcome in the short days full of clouds and rain/snow. If the day happens to be sunny, the days are so freaking short that you hardly have any time to go out and enjoy it. Another just fabulous part of the days being so short is that with it being dark all the time, I'm sleepy all the time. Again, finals + perpetually sleepy is not good!

I think we can all agree that winter is pretty darn awful. Just keep in mind the days of sun and the sight of green grass on the ground, when all the yucky white stuff will melt away, and we can all be happy again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
