When you first meet people, what's the first thing you notice? Their personality? Hell no. The first thing you notice is their physical appearance: face and body. Then, slowly, you try to imagine what their personality is like, based on their physical appearance. Some of you are probably disagreeing with my statement by shaking your heads. But I can almost 100% guarantee you that you have judged someone in the past. It could be something as simple as saying/thinking, "Wow, what is she wearing?" or "I don't know her, but I heard she's b-tchy."
No matter who you are and how nice you think you might be, you've probably said something hurtful behind someone's back. I probably judge people on a daily basis without even knowing. It honestly doesn't seem like a big deal, until it happens to you. That feeling of someone judging you without giving you a chance is an awful feeling. Sometimes, that person might even hate you just because of your physical appearance. It's so not fair, but there's nothing you can do to stop that person from thinking badly of you; it's just life. You can't control what other people do to you or others. However, you can control what you do to others.
A lot of the times when we comment about people, we don't mean it in an offensive way at all. Usually we say it in a joking manner. No harm, no foul, right? With a rising percentage of people putting other people down, it's time to put matters into our own hands. With just one less negative thought towards others in your mind, that's one less negative comment in this world.
One of my favorite quotes by Gandhi is, "Be the change you want to see in this world." It's time to stop putting other people down unknowingly and knowingly. It's time for us to change how we treat each other. We should support one another rather than putting one another down. Try it for a day and see what a difference it makes!
