As Michael Jordan said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” I learned at a young age that if I wanted something, I had to go out and get it. From little things like keeping my room clean, to more important things like my grades, to bigger things like what I want to do with my life. What I want would never be handed to me. I thought having to work for everything was a disadvantage, seeing so many people that can get things handed to them, but now I view it as a blessing in disguise. When you work toward something, the reward is even sweeter. Not only do you feel better knowing that you accomplished something, but you grow and gain skills that handouts do not provide.
Being a "doer" has become a great trait. It's something that anyone has the opportunity to possess. All you need is drive, focus and to make the decision to not just talk about it, but to change the conversation to action instead of words. Procrastination rarely will occur and you will find yourself with much more free time than "sayers." So many people waste entire days, that turn into weeks, putting off sometimes mundane tasks. If people would take the time to do what they say they would start to see how many benefits they can reap from it. It's nice to be around other people that have the same ambition that feeds their actions like you do. The mentality can be infectious.
Being a "doer" does not mean that you have all the answers, but it does mean you will take the steps necessary to getting where you want to be or might not have ever known you wanted to be. If you keep on making small steps, those will lead to bigger leaps down the road. Having dreams are important, but making them a reality is even better. You never know until you try and you will not get there without challenging yourself to get there, even if this place is unknown at the moment. Sitting around will not give you goals.
Now I am not saying don’t think about your actions first and just dive in all the time. Taking the time to appropriately analyze a situation is important in order to make a sound decision, but talking about the same thing endlessly and not making a choice either way will lead you to nowhere. There comes a time when you have to decide if you are just going to talk about what could or should be or if you are going to do what you say and say what you mean.
Be decisive. Go out and make what you want happen. Don't be afraid of what you can become.
