Why We Love The Olympics

As the Rio games are about to head into full swing, we remember the unity the Olympics brings to the world. We remember we can do anything we set our minds to. We just need to go out and chase our dreams and the world is ours.

Why We Love The Olympics

Every two years, we prepare to dedicate two weeks of our life to religiously watching NBC. Why? Because frankly, we love to watch the Olympics. From the artistically beautiful opening and closing ceremonies, to the attractive athletes, to seeing a different part of the world, we love it all. Whether you have a favorite athlete that you're rooting for or you're just watching for fun, it's always fun and stressful to watch athletes compete for the gold medal.

To watch world records be set and to watch people live out their childhood dreams, it just gives you a good feeling inside. It's amazing what a human being can do with hours and years of hard work, dedication, and training. Look at the US gymnastics team for example, they're so young but yet they've already done so much with their lives. I wish I could say I've competed in the Olympics at their age. Or look at Michael Phelps for example, his fifth Olympic Games will be Rio. To think of all the dedication he must have had to get to this point, it's crazy.

Some of us have a preference over which Olympic Games we like better. Whether it's the summer or Winter Olympics, they're both fun to watch. It's always fun to see the difficult tasks athletes must compete. Or the cool winter Olympic sports such as luging, the skeleton or speed skating. Those aren't sports that you get the opportunity to watch every day. Yes, we have all the basic sports that we can watch all the time, but it's only on the rare occasion you can watch luging or rowing on tv. The anxiety we feel as we watch diving, swimming, and gymnastics just to name a few sports, it's crazy. To watch divers jump incredible lengths. To watch swimmers move like lightning back and forth throughout the water. To watch gymnasts jump and twirl around.

It makes us think of all of the great things we can do. It inspires us to go out and to chase our dreams. It shows us that we really are truly capable of anything. The Olympics are an act of inspiring the world and bringing unity. With all of the hate in the world, we can stand as one and put our differences aside to do what we love and to just have fun. Of course, it's a stressful time for athletes. The world can "be as one" for two weeks and just bask in the amazement that is the Olympics. As we get prepared to watch the Rio games, we remember that not only is it great to get recognition for the things we love but it's great to do what we love for a living. Anyone can achieve their dreams, you just have to go out there and chase them and the world is yours.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
