Why We Hate To Remember Middle School
Odyssey

Ah, middle school. For some it started at sixth grade, for others seventh. But no matter the age it started, I think we can all agree that we hate to look back into our Facebook memories and see the status we posted six years ago in grade seven stating that we were "going to see 'Kung Fu Panda' in the theater without any adults!" (I actually think I posted a status very similar to this). These years were rough for more reasons than one.

1. Fashion

The first thing I notice when I look back at 13-year-old me is how did my mother let me leave the house dressed like that? Nowadays, we don't seem to have this issue because younger kids seem to be growing up faster and faster and my bad middle school fashion is left in the dust.

2. Braces

Most of us had them, all of us hated them.

3. Puberty

I try and block this memory out because who wants to remember how late of a bloomer they were or how they grew six inches before anyone else grew one? Not me.

4. School Dances

Literally just a mosh pit of boys trying to dance as close to a girl as possible without getting noticed by the teachers walking around scoping out inappropriate gestures. Don't forget about the Cha-Cha Slide!

5. Physical Activity was a reason to hate any kind of exercise.

Having to change in a room full of 40 people's naked bodies when you aren't even okay with seeing your own naked body. Putting on a sweaty shirt and pair of shorts you have worn for the past three days and be forced to play kickball and other activities that won't help you in any way. It's the American dream.

No matter how much you think you have grown since middle school, every time we look back on photos and memories from these days it turn us back into that awkward 13-year- old.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
