One of the biggest decisions in our lives is choosing our profession. The decision may come easy to some, but for others it can be a long and difficult journey. There are so many aspects to consider: what kind of setting you want to be in, how much money you want to be making, how much schooling will it entail? However, I think the most commonly ignored but most important aspects of choosing a profession is your passion for your work. Maybe, it's because I tend to find myself with an idealistic point of view, but I truly believe your passion for your profession should be one of the most important factors when considering your job.

We all know, no one wants to be stuck at a job they hate. However, it is important to acknowledge finances. Unfortunately, some passions mean less money than others. If it comes to that, then it is time to consider: what will you choose, money or happiness?

In my case, I will always choose happiness, and that is why I'm looking to pursue a job in education. Whenever I talk about teaching, I'm often reminded that "I won't make that much money". However, my choice is simple; I'm pursuing teaching, because it makes me happy. I'd much rather have a job I'm excited about and have to keep a tighter budget, than wake up every day miserable about my work. I want to help others. I want to encourage children to do their best and be the best they can be. No matter what it means, I want to leave an impact on the children I work with. My mom always taught me to consider my happiness in situations like these, as she herself knows how it feels to be discouraged out of some of her own passions.

So, before you let someone convince you otherwise: think of your happiness. I won't be as naive as to say, money doesn't matter. However, I would much rather pursue a career that makes me happy, than a career that someone else has chosen for me.
