Everyone needs a good laugh or a good cry sometimes, especially amidst the stress of the semester. Since college life is constantly hectic and overwhelming, it’s nice to find the time to slip into a world where all the everyday worries fade away.
Clicking play on your computer or television screen is a great way to shrug off your weekly responsibilities and follow the struggles and triumphs of a fictitious world you can’t help but love. If you’re feeling stressed with exams, papers, and all of the assignments of this semester, taking a breather and watching TV may just be the perfect remedy.
Whether you binge watch different shows on Netflix, or wait patiently once a week for the latest episode to come on, TV gives you something to look forward to in the busy school week. Plus, there are shows for everyone from New Girl, to CSI, to Grey’s Anatomy.
Watching a thirty-minute episode (or three more after that) can actually make you more productive. It gives you the energy to keep trudging along through the week, especially when you feel like you are running out of steam. We all have the tendency to run ourselves down, and getting caught in some light-hearted comedy or jaw dropping crime thriller will give you a chance to refuel.
TV is none other than an escape, and whether you find yourself wishing to enter that escape or overly thankful you don’t live in a world with so much drama-- the characters, plot, and entirety of the show becomes your close friends, and you like to think that they need you just as much as you need them.
TV is also about uniting people, and I find talking about my favorite shows to my friends makes them all the more fun to watch, especially when everyone has a different reaction to the latest cliff-hanger.
Even though we watch TV to escape everyday life, our shows inevitably become a part of our lives, and we can’t help talking about the characters as if we know them. Also, sometimes it’s reassuring when the main character in the show is in far more trouble than you ever want to imagine being in, and then doing homework or writing that research paper doesn’t seem so bad.
I used to think TV was a waste of time and I would only watch it on a break when I wasn’t tied down with my current obligations. However, I found I was much more rejuvenated and happy once I found a show I could fall asleep to, and just watch without a care in the world.
