If you're like me and just graduated, congratulations! The world is our oyster! We have such an amazing opportunity waiting for us. This opportunity looks very different depending on the person, it might look like starting a job at your dream company or taking a trip that you have always wanted, or maybe just taking a well-deserved break from school. For me, it looks like moving to a city I have never even been to, to start a career helping others.
I am so excited about this fresh start in my new home of Oklahoma City, and I want to tell the whole world all the reasons why I am so excited to move to a brand new place!
New People
I have always been a fan of the old saying "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet". Moving to a new place means finding new friends and groups to be a part of! Even if you are the most social person out there (shoutout to my extroverts!), it can be a challenge to find new friends. I plan on befriending people from work, finding community in a local church, and doing some volunteering in my new city to meet new people!
There are thousands of ways to make new friends, especially because making new friends in the adult world is a little bit trickier than in high school or college. If you're moving to a new city, make sure to plan how you're going to find friends in your new home by exploring what your city has to offer!
New Favorites
At my Alma Mater, I definitely have my favorite places to be when I don't have anything to do on a Friday afternoon. I have the Climbing Wall with all my rock-climbing friends, I have my favorite restaurant with the best halal in the entire world, and I have my favorite coffee shop that's conveniently on my walk to campus every morning. These are special places that will hold a near and dear place in my heart, but my new home will come with new favorites!
Maybe my coworkers and I will have a famous friendship spot as we see in classic TV shows like Friends or How I Met Your Mother! Perhaps I will find my favorite jogging route in the whole world in the park near my apartment. There are so many new favorites that are going to be discovered.
New Unique Things To Do
Every city has its own niche. For OKC, I am very excited to visit (and drag visiting friends and family) to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. I'm pumped to become an NBA fan for the first time and go to Oklahoma Thunder games! Every city has special things to do and see, and a quick google search will help you find amazing things about your new home.
New Dating Scene
Let's be honest: dating in school is not the greatest. Are some people extremely lucky and find their person in their Economics class their first semester of freshman year? Absolutely! And I am so happy for those people! But for those of us who have not found their lucky someone, a new city can be the beginning of a beautiful love story with potential partners who are ready for something a little bit more serious than a slice of pizza at the dining hall.
New places can be so fun and exciting! I am so excited to start my journey in my new city and I hope that everyone can experience the positives of calling a new place home.
