We've anticipated it since October of last year, and the Austin City Limits lineup is finally out. Yeah, I won't lie. I thought when it was leaked that it was just a scam. I'll also admit that I set my alarm for 5:58 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5 so that I could wake up and get the first look at the lineup (which was totally worth it, but totally sucked because I was wide awake with Netflix until 8 a.m.). Anyways, I was 100 percent impressed with this year's lineup, especially in comparison with the last two years.
This October 2-4 and 9-11, some of the biggest artists are coming to Zilker Park. I'm partial to weekend two (for the first time ever) because I absolutely have to see Modest Mouse and Florence & The Machine, but there really isn't a bad weekend.
While I have heard from some people that the top of the lineup is fairly “thin," I believe the lineup under that is filled with some incredible artists. Headline wise, people will have the opportunity to see Drake, whose concert tickets can almost be as expensive as the festival itself.
If you're an indie music fan, there is a countless number of amazing bands that you can see including alt-J, Hozier, Of Monsters and Men, Modest Mouse, Tame Impala, Ben Howard, Father John Misty, Walk the Moon, Brandon Flowers, Vance Joy, George Ezra, Lord Huron, Glass Animals, Shakey Graves, and more.
If you like techno music, or any other type of upbeat show, be on the lookout for Disclosure, Deadmau5, Bassnectar, Nero, Cherub, Misterwives, Ryn Weaver, and more.
I think this lineup is truly pleasing to fans of virtually any genre. Whiskey Myers will be there for the country music fans, and Drake, A$AP Rocky, and more will be there for the hip hop fans.
“It's a good mix between up-and-coming bands and known artists. No one that I hate which is good, it's better than last year for sure," junior Mavery Ramirez said.
Honestly, the only negative side to this lineup is going to be deciding which artists I want to see over others, because they're all so ridiculously good. Props to the staff of Austin City Limits and FrontGate Tickets because you all did an amazing job. Music fans all over the nation are pretty much freaking out, obviously since I woke up at 6 a.m. solely to see the lineup.
There really is no better feeling than being at a music festival, whether the lineup is amazing or subpar. The atmosphere is just incredible, and I know that a lineup of artists with this much talent is going to make for one of the best music festivals of the year (sorry Lolla and Bonnaroo).
I hate to spend $250, but if there's anything I will spend it on, it's a three-day music festival wristband. Totally worth it. So my advice to you is to seriously check out this lineup and get yourself to ACL!
