With the recent attacks in Paris, I have finally realized how scared I am of this world we live in. Millions of questions flood my brain like, "why did this happen?" "Why do people want to kill others?" and "Why is this world driven by terror instead of love?" These questions have many answers and, at the same time, there are no answers as to why this world has gone completely insane. And what are we doing about it? Nothing. Oh wait, we can change our Facebook profile pictures to offer our support, but we won't donate money to help families in France, or even follow through on promises to pray for them and for ourselves. Americans as a whole are obsessed with the appearance of caring about these horrible tragedies, but we are experts on not doing anything about it.
This needs to change. It has to change, or the world will continue getting worse. We need to stand together and fight for this change to happen. Change around the entire globe, not just here in the United States. A movement towards loving others and actually helping people, instead of sitting on the sidelines like the fools we have been in the past. I am college student and many people think I cannot make a difference. I am in school to become a teacher. As a future Clemson University graduate, I could most likely get any job at any school I want because of my prestige education. Despite that fact, I desire to teach the students that teachers continue giving up on because of their socioeconomic backgrounds. I desire to teach the students who parents have even given up on them and have left them to survive alone. I want to teach students in the poorest areas of the United States because the only way for them to escape their poverty is through education. This is my difference I want to contribute to the world by giving the children--who need it most--the best education possible. I refuse to sit on the sidelines and have a cushy job just for my own selfish benefit and mental peace of mind. The problem with the world is that no one wants to save it anymore. It's too much work...it's too much money...it's too much time. These excuses ring throughout daily household conversations and echo in the back of people's minds. Martin Luther King Jr. didn't think it was too much work. Eleanor Roosevelt didn't think it was too much money. And Mother Teresa didn't think it was too much time.
The terrorist attacks and innocent lives being lost truly does scare me. But not as much as consciously knowing that we are doing nothing about it. Choose what difference you want to make and start it today. It's the only way we can teach love and turn this world into a better place. Do not sit on the sidelines and wait on someone else to save this world. Make it your responsibility to make a change for the betterment of yourself and the world. It's going to take a lot of work, money and time, but it will be 100 percent worth it because you are changing the world.
