We all thought it was hilarious when we first heard that Donald Trump was running for President. It would definitely make this election entertaining, so that’s harmless, right?
Wrong.
What started as entertainment has turned into something very serious that could jeopardize the wellbeing of our country.
Let me give you a fact about Donald Trump that anyone with a computer can find:
Donald Trump has switched his political affiliation seven times during his life (so far).
Democrat until 1987
Republican from 1987 – 1999
Reformist from 1999 – 2001
Democrat from 2001 – 2009
Republican from 2009 – 2011
Independent from 2011 – 2012
Republican from 2012 – present
What does this show? Well, for starters it shows that Donald Trump might be the most inconsistent and fickle person ever. Great qualities for someone leading a country!
Additionally, it shows that he was a Democrat for his first 23 voting years. So this makes him a natural choice for the current Republican candidate? (Conveniently, he switched back to being a Republican right before the election cycle… nice timing, Trump.)
What he says he supports today could very well be different from what he supports, or “says he supports” tomorrow, or even just weeks from now. His defense to his shifting views is that he’s "flexible." Sure, if flexible is a synonym for flaky and inconsistent, then he is very flexible indeed... The only time that Trump is flexible is when he’s changing his perspective to say whatever viewers want to hear in order to get their votes.
Furthermore, Donald Trump does not respond to anything with direct answers. While watching the Republican debate on Thursday, I noticed that he literally avoided all of the questions and directed his “responses” as insults. He even called Rubio, “Little Marco” as if he needs to put people down to build himself up…aka: Donald Trump is a bully.
The moderator asked him what he was going to do to raise money to help pay back his “tax cut” reform idea and the $10 trillion debt it will cause. Trump answered that he was going to cut the entire budget of the Department of Environmental Protection (I’m sorry, what? Well it was nice having a planet while it lasted) and also cut the education budget. The moderator then showed a screen that illustrated that those numbers do not add up at all, and Trump couldn’t answer for it. So per usual, he changed the subject.
Finally, Donald Trump is a horrible person. He is a racist, a sexist, and a downright creep. Honestly just watch this video by John Oliver. Just do it and you'll agree.
His supporters’ biggest argument is that he speaks his mind. You know who else spoke their mind? Hitler.
FACT: One man, as a social experiment created a fake Trump pamphlet and replaced quotes with Hitler quotes, and then asked Trump’s supporters if they supported them. This is what happened.
“Well I don’t like Hitler, but if Donald Trump said that I would support it.”
Hitler. I’ll let that sink in for a minute.
Then there’s the situation with the former grand wizard of the KKK, David Duke, openly supporting Donald Trump. If the KKK supports Donald Trump, he has given them some warped reason to. It’s probably because he has created so much hate against other races; one current example is his attitude toward Mulsims. And so now white supremacists are supporting him.
Right now in our country we are living the expression: “Ignorance often speaks the loudest.” Do not be ignorant. Educate yourself on the issues. Donald Trump is not a suitable candidate to run our country. He’s hot headed, and his “loud voice” will not go over well when talking to foreign leaders. He’s indecisive, and doesn’t ever seem to know what he’s talking about. He just talks to hear himself talk.
Donald Trump says he wants to “Make America Great Again,” but his values align with those of hate, and that is un-American. We are not talking about an entertainer, or any superficial position.
We are talking about the President of the United States of America. If you are a Republican and actually support Donald Trump, I ask that you consider two things.
- Donald Trump brings out the worst qualities in Americans, so why would you want him to lead our country?
- There is no way Donald will beat Hillary, so if you vote for Trump, you are handing Clinton the election. If you actually want a Republican President you need to vote using logic (not anger), and pick someone that actually cares about this country and the people in it. I would vote for a Democrat before I vote for Trump.
I ask, no I beg, that you educate yourself on the issues. Donald Trump will not make America great again; if elected (*shudders*) he will be our downfall.
