Why The Kardashians Are Killing Girls' Confidence

Their lives are like everyone's' lives on Instagram; not real.

Now I know we’re all familiar with the famous family (the family that everyone questions how they even got famous), The Kardashian/Jenners: Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie. These beauties are EVERYWHERE doing EVERYTHING. We see it all day long on social media. They live the most lavish lifestyles and don't want you to forget it. They seem like they have perfect lives (excuse me if I’m a little bitter over it). If I’m keeping it real, you must know, I’m legit a KUWTK junkie. Every Sunday night at 9PM I’m snuggle in bed with a bottle of wine and chips and dip waiting for the infamous Kim K to appear on the screen dishing out some sort of juicy family drama that instantly hooks me for the next 60 minutes.

Since they’ve gotten so famous over the past few years, people seem to forget that there was a time before they ruled the media. Let’s go back in time to 2007 when Kim was Paris Hilton’s assistant/closet organizer. Yaaas, throwback.

The unrealistic beauty standards.

After watching the show for so many years and staring in awe at them, I’ve come to the conclusion that their entire lives are constructed to be marketed. The girls are beautiful, yes, but they definitely don’t wake up like that. Like at all. They have an entire glam squad surrounding them 24/7. That’s why they always look so flawless.

Surgery.

Don't even get me started. Kim swears up and down that her ass is real and even went as far as getting an x-ray of her butt while filming KUWTK. When the x-ray showed that she didn't have butt implants, we believed her for a split second. That's until we put 2+2 together and realized that she got fat injected into her ass, which wouldn't show up on an x-ray. Smart.

I'll just leave this here.

Weave.

Personally, I love hair extensions (or weave, as I call it). Extensions can make your look go from drab to Uber fab and what the hell is wrong with that? Absolutely nothing! Unless you’re wearing them wrong, and trust me, we’ve all been there. I’ve worn extensions for years, and I’m obsessed. I think it’s so cool that I can rock an outfit with short hair or long hair whenever I want. Have you noticed how often the Kardashian’s switch up their hair color and length? One day Kim has jet-black hair, and the next she’s caramel blonde. Khloe has been my number one hair envy lately, though. She can rock her short hair or her extensions. Like you can’t tell at all. That’s dope. Get it girl.

Fashion.

I live for the style of these beauties. Their outfits are literally ALWAYS on point, 100%. It’s actually unhealthy to always look that good. No matter the season, these girls are always looking extra fleek-y. They give me style inspo year-round, which is kind of odd considering they live in California and only have one season. Coming from a New York girl, I’m so jealous that they live in summer 365 days a year. Here is a best look so far from 2016:

These women are dominating the beauty/fashion business and definitely don't plan on stopping anytime soon. They are a brand. They market themselves. If they don't appear perfect to you, then they aren't doing their jobs correctly. So the next time you feel envious of them, think about how their success didn't happen overnight (okay maybe it did, literally, thanks Ray J), and before all that surgery they were normal people with flaws. While they're still killing it in makeup and fashion, though, let's pay attention so we can slay our looks just like they do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
