Big eyebrows are back in a big way. Cara Delevingne basically started her modeling career due to her thick set of brows. Lilly Collins’ eyebrows even have their own twitter account. Cosmopolitan magazine is calling big brows one of the biggest comebacks ever. It is one of the most on trend looks for the year, and it’s great for all girls in more ways than one. Here’s why:
1. We don’t have to pluck our eyebrows anymore
Forget the combined hours of plucking your brows to the perfect shape, arch, thinness, etc. Honestly ditch the tweezers all together. The thicker the brows the more retro they look. Though remember to pluck the middle because we’re trying to channel a young Brooke Shields here, not the Geico caveman.
Â
2. We're not going to look scary when we’re older
Let me elaborate, years of plucking can lead to eventual hair loss of your brows over time. The Daily Mail Co. says that over plucking brows can cause permanent damage to your hair follicles not allowing you to eventually grow back any brow hair at all in the areas you’ve plucked too heavily. This is why this trend is nice for us, because nobody wants to be that old lady with the two black pencil lines drawn on her face. I think everyone can agree that's just not a great look. This trend will allow all of us to keep our eyebrows nice and full over time so we won't end up looking like clowns or evil Disney villains at 60.
Â
3. Thick brows define your eyesÂ
Having big brows draws attention towards your eyes – remember Anna Farris’ important speech about them in The House Bunny (i.e. they're the "nipples of the face"). This is obviously a good thing, because eyes are powerful. Women have seduced, convinced, intrigued, and conquered using only their eyes. Why wouldn't we draw more attention to them?
Â
4. You stand out from the crowdÂ
Yes, every model/singer/actress may be rocking big brows right now, but not every girl on the street is. So once you start you will indefinitely stand out from the crowd and that's always a good thing.
Â
5. They’re a built in accessory
Honestly take a look at the celebrities who have unruly brows. They usually aren’t wearing much makeup. Nice, big eyebrows add to your face just like a red pout would. It’s eye-catching and you have to wear much less makeup if you can pull it off.
Meghan Drambel, Agricultural Business major, in Kappa Alpha Theta, commented that whenever she lets her eyebrows grow out she feels comfortable in much less makeup because they are such a statement piece, “they really do add to your face.”
So why not put your tweezers in the bottom drawer - the one your never go in that just has like old lotion sets your aunt bought you for Christmas last year - and try out unruly brows for a change. Who knows, it could be your best look yet.
