They say that when you've done it once, you're truly never finished. Now before you get your mind in the gutter, I'm talking about tattoos, so sorry to disappoint! I guess many say it's an addiction, however I would have to agree with some others that it's about half and half. Personally, I have eight tattoos and have about four more planned in the future. Every single one of mine have a pretty big meaning to me, as so many other people would agree! I guess the addicting part, is that you're always thinking of new ideas, and tattoos that kind of stand out, that you really want to have!
Tattoos have been around for many years, and are done in different ways, although we know the norm of tattoos, whether we've had them done, or seen it being done. I would also have to say that tattoos are definitely more of an acceptance to society than the past, although there are a lot of GenX babies that would disagree...
It's all about expressing yourself, or even just having super personal tattoo to remind yourself of someone or something. It is literally a work of art, created by you and a tattoo artist that holds a special meaning, that just happens to be on your body rather than a canvas!
Although it's definitely painful to many degrees (based on location) I almost feel like there's some sort of release by getting one done! For many people, including myself, getting a tattoo is to remember, to forget, or to show some strength we have within us. When I get a tattoo, any sort of feeling towards the item, kind of releases once it's finished! (Imagine a basket of doves if you're looking for a corny example) I also find that it really brings people together. Since getting my first tattoo, I've run into other people who have them, and you just kind of click and tell your story on the who, what, when, where and why.
Tattoos are more than an addiction, but a way of self expression, and storytelling. There is an author that I follow on Instagram (Anna Todd), who recently got a tattoo of the world on her wrist, and when she travels to a new place, she gets it filled in watercolour style. Not only is she gorgeous, but she is always getting new tattoos that are seriously amazing, including this tattoo idea! *This is Anna Todd's Map Tattoo Below*
Tattoos have the ability to heal people who have suffered, a way of connecting strangers, as well as binding loved ones together. Although we are prone to believe that tattoos need to be hidden, there is a certain type of pride that comes with it.
So of course when they say, once you get one, you never really stop.
