Why Sylly Week Isn't For Me

Sylly week may be fun for some people, but actually, I don't find it appealing at all

Why Sylly Week Isn't For Me

To start things off, I'm not a huge partier in the first place, but I always hear people saying sylly week is the best week. All your professors do is reviews and hand out syllabi and it's a week full of drinking and fun with your friends.

I'm confused because my syllabus week was filled with actual homework and executive board meetings and more. I had no actual time to go out and party. Like I mentioned above, I'm not a huge partier in the first place. Actually, I don't find it appealing at all. But I do like to have fun with my friends, so if I had the time to go out, I would've. But I didn't.

I don't know if it's just because I'm too devoted to school and getting a 4.0 that I have no time to do anything or if I actually really was just too busy with all of my extracurricular activities to do anything.

Sylly week isn't for me because personally, I cannot go out every single night (apparently ten nights in a row) and maintain my grade point average. I need eight hours of sleep per night and I need to focus on being the best I can be in school and my extracurricular. I care more about my grades than I care about going out and partying every night of the week. And yes, I actually happen to have homework during sylly week.

Sylly week isn't for me because I don't want to be the girl that goes out to a frat party every night. It's great if some girls have fun doing that but it's not my sort of scene. I just don't seem to enjoy myself at big parties like that. I'd rather stay inside and watch Netflix with my free time or see if my friends want to go grab dinner. I will check out new clubs on campus. I try and go to sporting events that are not football and those occurred during the week.

Sylly week isn't for me because I couldn't go out ten nights in a row. Even if I did choose to go out just one night, Sylly week pertains to the entire first week of classes and people tend to go out every night they possibly can. I'm not saying everybody is like that, but some people are and that's just not something for me. Maybe I'll go out one night a week...maybe one night every two weeks...maybe one night a month...or maybe one night in a semester.

Sylly week may be for some people, but it's just not fun for me. If it's fun for you then you do you! Sylly week to me is just like any other week to me. There will always be parties going on. I will always have homework and extracurricular activities to complete. I will always want to strive for that 4.0 grade point average and, for me, I cannot possibly complete a week of partying and all of my homework. I'm glad many people enjoy Sylly week but I just don't feel like "getting sylly."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
