" Suicide Squad" just came out on August 5th and it has already made $146.8 million despite the mixed reviews. I know DCU has received a lot of flack lately between this movie and "Batman Vs Superman," but in comparing the two, I think Suicide Squad comes out on top. I know it's not the most amazing movie because I, too, see the flaws but I don't think it deserves the harsh criticism it has received and here is why:
The chemistry between Jared Leto and Margot Robbie as The Joker and Harley Quinn was undeniable. I loved the fact that Jared never rehearsed with the cast and just jumped into it whenever they filmed their scenes. I thought he did an incredible job as The Joker; he was creepy, psychotic, and the infamous laugh had me scared to go to sleep because it was all I could hear in my head.
Will Smith as DeadShot was 10/10. The character was the perfect combination of soft and tough. We got to see both sides of him and I think DeadShot really was a scene stealer but I definitely would like to know more about him.
I wasn’t too familiar with the other characters of the "Suicide Squad," but I loved them and their unique and individual personalities. You can definitely tell that the cast had a really tight bond not only as characters in the movie but in real life as well. In the movie, you realize that they don't really know each other and are basically just thrown together in a mission to fight off the antagonist, but they seemed to really click and band together.
Personally, I think the movie had great comedic timing. There was never a moment where people weren't laughing when they were supposed to. The lines were perfectly delivered and even the tone in the way the lines were spoken was great.
What's my review? I give a seven out of 10. Although the movie wasn’t amazingly directed, I still don’t think it deserved the backlash it continues to get. Despite that fact, people are still seeing the movie, it's definitely one of the more talked about movies that are out right now, and it goes to show that the DC movies can only get better.
