June 8, 2010. That’s the day this six-year phenomenon came into our lives. As a 14-year-old just about to start high school, this TV show was what everyone was looking forward to. Little did I know, I’d STILL be watching it six years later, as a 20-year-old, two years into college. So what’s kept me here all this time?
1. I NEED ANSWERS.
From the very first episode, the writers have dragged us in every way possible, played with our emotions, and made us develop relationships with every character. Right when we thought it was all solved with the “Charles” reveal, we find us right where we started, with another death. How could they do this to us again?
2. The couples.
Although this five-year break has separated some of our favorite duos, we can’t forget what once was. If “Haleb” wasn’t your favorite couple you don’t know true love and “Ezria” was the sweetest, yet illegal, relationship on the show. Did anyone really like Spencer and Toby? Correction, did anyone really like Spencer? Not when she’s a cheater or trying to date Caleb, that’s for sure.
3. Family drama.
You can’t pretend like the tension between the Hastings and DiLaruentis’ wasn’t there. It still baffles me that Jason DiLaurentis, and now Charlotte DiLaurentis are Spencer’s half siblings. She lived almost her whole life not knowing that and the death of Charlotte didn’t even effect the family at all. Who even knows where Mr. Hastings is and what family secret could unveil next.
4. Because I cant get enough of Hanna Marin.
Every episode I look forward to the next sassy, brutally honest thing Hanna is going to say. I admire her courage to say literally whatever comes to mind, but be so right about everything. And you can’t help but love every hairstyle and clothing combination she has on.
5. It doesn't get old.
I know six years sounds like a lot for an ABC Family original show, especially a show that could have ended two seasons ago, but to be honest I can’t not watch. Every week when I tune in I’m just as interested as the first time because with this show you truly never know what is going to happen next.
6. I’m still waiting for Ian to come back
.When characters die in Rosewood, do they really even die?
7. Who let the moms out of the basement?
In the episode “Last Dance,” the girls mothers end up getting locked in the DiLaurentis basement all the way through the end of the episode. Who? What? Why? And magically five years later they are out and the writers can’t even give us some insight?
8. The hilarious hashtags they put at the top of the screen.
Every so often throughout the episode, there are hashtags in the top corner that the audience can tweet and talk about on twitter. Some people do it for the conversation, I personally wait for them so I can have a good laugh. #OfficerToby thank you for telling me because him standing there with a police uniform wasn’t a good indication. #BitterAndrew thank you for telling me because his facial expression wasn’t enough. #EzraAwake thank you for telling me because seeing him lay in a hospital bed with his eyes open didn’t tell me that he was awake.
9. To get together with my friends every Tuesday to scream at the TV.
Surprisingly enough, I am not the only one still caught up in "Pretty Little Liars." Every Tuesday, I get together with a group of my friends and we turn into high school girls again once the clock hits 8:00 p.m.
10. Waiting for a hand to stick up out of the ground and have another six years of my life be taken over.
Honestly, I don’t know if I can mentally handle more.
Although "Pretty Little Liars" has made me dislike, but love it so much, I can truly say that through every single season I have never missed an episode and I never plan on it. If you have not watched the show before and are interested catch up on Netflix or On Demand if you need to just watch recent ones! It is a perfect mix of drama, comedy, romance, mystery, and thriller. It has a little bit of everything and takes you into their crazy world for an hour every Tuesday night.
