Why Sorority Rush Is Worse For Boyfriends

Boyfriends are the real heros of rush week.

This week, the University of Alabama is in the middle of sorority recruitment or rush. For incoming freshman, rush can consist of the most memorable moments of their whole college experience, as they not only find out which sorority they will be pledging, but will make friendships that will last a lifetime.

However, for active members of sorority rush, rush workshops and rush are the equivalent of hell. Girls spend all day inside their houses talking to potential new members while dressed up in high heels and dresses for 10 hours a day. Meanwhile, their houses are set at 60 degrees so they are freezing the whole time. Girls often complain that rush is the worst experience of their lives, and would rather jump off a bridge than talk to another girl that doesn't know how to have a conversation.

But you know who rush is actually the worst for? The answer is any guy who is dating or has ever dated a sorority girl. Here is why:

We don’t get to sleep In:

As rush happens in early August, chances are that you are not taking classes for a couple of weeks. As a result, you look forward to catching up on sleep before the fall semester starts. Well, if you are dating someone taking part in rush, that doesn’t happen. The girls need to be at the house by 7:50 a.m. so they need to leave by 7:30 a.m., but they really don't want to drive themselves. As a boyfriend, you need to play dad and drive your girlfriend and three to four of her sisters in her Lexus every morning to the house. You thought of sleeping in until 10:00 a.m., and that goes away pretty quickly. Thinking of sleeping in until 7:20 a.m., well, good luck with that. Chances are by 6:30 a.m. you are awoken by either a shower, hair-dryer, or a Keurig, as the girls need to be up and ready for the day ahead of them.

I know your door song by heart— I don’t need to hear It, again and again.

You would think after singing the same song over and over, day after day, you would get sick of it. But no. You pick everyone up from the house on the ride home, and everyone just starts singing it. Listen, ladies— t doesn’t matter if your song says “Boom-Boom," “Kappa Kappa Kappa”, “Delta D D”, as a guy, we don’t want to hear it, ever. So do us a favor as boyfriends, refrain from singing it around us.

Really? You have never been this tired in your life?

Every day, we pick you and your friends up from the house after a long day rushing girls, and you all say the same thing. “I’ve never been so tired in my life.” Really? You have never been so tired? Did you ever play sports in high school? Have you worked a day in your life? You aren’t that tired ladies; you are just bored of talking to the same girls over and over. So, listen, ladies, buck up and get over it.

You never can respond to my texts, but you can take Snapchats.

So, I get that girls can’t have their phones with them during rush. I get that. I understand that if I send you a text, that I probably won’t get a response for a couple of hours. What is frustrating, though, is when you look on Snapchat and see your girlfriend’s story is with her sisters, but she still haven’t responded. Really? Don’t lie to me.

At least I have bid day to look forward to.

The one good thing that comes out of rush is that at the end of the week comes bid day, which is basically like Christmas morning. As a guy, there is nothing better than getting up at 7:30 a.m, to start drinking and then watching the running of the bulls. Nothing can beat that.

As a boyfriend, you look forward to getting your girlfriend back. Congratulations, you get your girlfriend back on bid day, but only for a couple hours, because then they have to hang out with all of the new girls they are so "obsessed" with.

So, ladies, don’t think rush is so difficult because it is actually a lot harder on your boyfriends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
