Oh, siblings.
As the saying goes, "You can't live with them, but you can't live without them." Those of us who have brothers and sisters, we know how crazy it is to grow up with them. Whether its the older brother who pounds on you or the little sister who will never leave you alone, they all hold a special place in your heart. Siblings are undoubtedly one of the most important things in your life.
I grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana with both of my parents. For two years, it was just me and my mom and dad. Life was good. Then my baby sister, Alecia, came along. That was a game-changer. Since I can remember, my baby sister and I have been on a roller-coaster of emotions. I remember growing up hitting her with a wiffle ball bat. I covered her from head to toe in peanut butter when she was four. I remember running around the backyard as a toddler naked and I even think I broke a plastic little chair over her when she called me a name. Typical sibling stuff right?
Overall, I have three siblings who I would go to the absolute ends of the earth for. I have two younger sisters, Alecia and Shauna, along with my youngest sibling and brother, Davis. There is no one I love more in my life. Siblings increase ones happiness in life tenfold, while simultaneously annoying the hell out of you. Its incredibly strange to be quite honest.
A great thing about siblings is that when it comes down to it, you always have each other's back. Bully at school? Give your big brother a call and I guarantee he will show up 10 times out of 10 to have your back. Struggling with finding a boyfriend? Yeah, your older sister has probably been there as well. There is generally nothing that a sibling wouldn't do for their family. These are the people we grew up with. What we went through in life, we went through with them. The ups, the downs, and everywhere in between.
Our siblings bring out the emotion in us. As children, it is rather simple to express those feelings and emotions. Our siblings pick and poke and pry until we explode or cry and let it all out. However, as we grow older, we bottle those same feelings. We keep it all inside of us. Obviously, that is one of the more unhealthy things we can do as human beings. Again, meeting with siblings and having the atmosphere of comfort and trust, that can only come from the experiences the two of you have had together, is a phenomenal way to get through these troubles.
Siblings are a blessing. I love each and every one of my sisters and brother more then anything in the world. I truly believe that anyone with siblings has an undeniable connection with them. This is such an exciting relationship in life, and I love it.
