9 Reasons Why Your Younger Sibling Is Your Biggest Blessing
In Laura's Lens

Younger siblings can be the biggest pests sometimes. I remember growing up and hating that my sister would copy me, follow me around, or just try to push my buttons to get a rise out of me (lets just say she was very good at that). Although there are times you cannot stand your younger siblings, they actually may just be the biggest blessing in your life. Here are 9 reasons why your younger sibling may just be your biggest blessing...

1. You're their first friend.

From the day they were born, you were the person they latched onto and wanted to grow up to become. Although you may have found it to be annoying when they followed you around or wanted to do the things you were doing, you were their friend who they wanted to grow up to be like.

2. They make you want to be a better person.

You know your younger sibling(s) look up to you, so they make you want to live a genuine life and be well-respected for the individual you are. You want to be the best version of yourself for them.

3. You'll always be needed.

No matter where God takes you in life, your younger sibling(s) will always need you whether it is for advice, someone to talk to, or just for someone to have some good fun and laughter with.

4. They make you mature quickly.

More than likely your parents put you in charge of your younger sibling(s). You had to babysit, clean up after them, put them to bed, and possibly even comfort them when they were scared. They made you grow up and give them that parental love a lot sooner than you would have without them. In the end, you're probably pretty mature for you age now and you have your younger sibling(s) to thank for that one.

5. They teach you what it is like to extend grace and how grace extended to you.

There are many times your younger sibling(s) get on your nerves, even now, and you exercise what it is like to extend grace to someone despite how you may feel. The same goes for them, I'm sure there were times you took things out on your sibling(s) and didn't really mean it, but they knew you didn't really mean what you said. In that instance, you were able to receive grace from them.

6. They are always there to support your decisions.

No matter how big or little of a decision you have to make, your sibling(s) are always there to support you. Sometimes they may think you are stupid, but choose to support whatever you decide because they believe in who you are as a person and know you deserve that support.

7. More than likely, they know you better than anyone else.

They've spent a good majority, if not all their life, with you. If there is someone who knows you the best, it is probably your sibling(s). They know everything you've gone through and how you became the person you are today.

8. They ask for your wisdom.

At times, your sibling(s) may ask for your wisdom, which ends up getting you to really think about the things you believe and the convictions you feel. They make you think, look to scripture for answers, and in the end become more wise.

10. No matter what, they'll always love you.

No matter what argument may occur, the names that may be thrown both ways, in the end, your younger sibling(s) will always love you because of the person you are and because of the person you have helped shape them into.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
