Middle school and early high school used to be home to the most awkward of humans, with braces, frizzy hair, acne, and no sense of style. It was the norm. It was accepted.
Now there are 14 year old girls looking better than I do at 20, wearing more makeup and following harsher diets. That's ok though, because my awkward years were some of my best.
To the new generation:
1. You'll never experience being ugly
I'm talking about the down-right hideousness that was 7th grade dance. Sure, we may cringe looking at old photo's now, but back then it didn't matter. Boys were attracted to the cute innocent freckly look. The best part? We got to noticeably get more attractive. And now we can really appreciate good hair and a nice sense of smile, because we didn't always have it.
2. You find your best friends when you're awkward
It's not hard to find friends when you look great, but it's hard to tell the difference between the real ones and the social climbers. When you're both unbearable awkward, you know they aren't in it to look cooler. They want to be friends because they truly enjoy your pinned back bangs.
3. You're missing the best eating days of your life
When I was a freshman, the word diet never crossed my mind. You have the best metabolism of your life before you turn 16, why would you want to waste that eating salads. Those years are the only years when you can eat without guilt, and trust me, you'll miss them.
4. You'll have nothing to laugh about
and we all need a little laughter.
5. You'll miss the days when makeup was a special occasion
Why wear normal makeup when it's perfectly acceptable to wear metallic blue at that age?
6. Being in style is overrated
While the new generation of young girls are certainly more fashionable than we were, you can't say they're having more fun.
7. The "remember whens..." won't be near as embarrassing
Remember when I looked great for halloween my freshman year of high school? Nope, doesn't cut it.
8. You have the rest of your life to look good
so in the mean time, shop at Abercrombie and get over it
