Don't Date Boys, Date Men

Boys. Remember when you were eight years old and the mention of “boys” made you want to run, hide, scream, and get a baby barf. But the moment you finally fit in your training bra, suddenly the thought of a boy didn’t seem half-bad. They started to appear cuter; they made you laugh. Suddenly your hormones controlled your emotions full-speed ahead and you found yourself falling for every boy you could see. That right there was the beginning of a long road of heartbreaks, tears and mistakes.

See, boys are still gross. You were right at eight when you ran away from boys. Whenever you see a boy you should run far far away so you never fall for his sneaky tricks that involve his blue eyes and charming lines.

Boys will lie to you. Boys will trick you. Boys will make you cry. Boys will cheat on you. Boys will play games with you and lead you on only to change their mind. Boys are stupid and blind to the good girls who are right in front of them. However as cliche as it is; men are different.

The most muscular and athletic thirty year old can still be a boy depending on his level of intelligence, respect, and faith. The cargo wearing scrawny fifteen year old can be a man based on his level of intelligence, respect, and faith. Being a man is not about the truck you drive, or how much you can lift in the gym. To be a man you don’t have to drink protein shakes and participate in leg day (even though that is a plus), being a man is all about how you live your life.

To be a man you must act justly, love mercifully and walk humbly with the Lord.

Think about who you want to raise your future son. Who would be a great example of Christ’s love and push him to be the best he can be without force? Think about who you would want to date your future daughter. You wouldn’t want her to settle so why would you?

A boy can easily tell you “I love you,” but a man will talk about the future with you. Boys are not interested in you for forever. Boys are not focused on you.

Now before you expect to date a man who seeks Christ in all he does, make sure you are the type of woman who he would be attracted to. Make sure you live your life serving the Lord through your everyday actions. Make sure you are the type of women who people remember for being a light of joy and an example of Christ’s faithfulness.

It's normal to want to date someone physically attractive. But at the end of the day, remember that one day their looks will fade and all they will have left is their personality. If their personality can’t make you laugh and make you feel encouraged then why are you with them?

If you were blind, would he still be a man?

Maybe, just maybe, if we all expected every boy to be a man, then they would eventually all become men. Maybe if we raised our standards, they would raise the bar.

So don’t date boys. Run away from boys. Date men, and never settle.

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."--Micah 6:8

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
