Before I began this piece, I had to decipher how we (society) define the term "weird." By dictionary definition, weird is defined as suggesting something supernatural or uncanny. However, society views something or someone to be weird if it is different from the norm, or seem unconventional or odd. It seems that when we call people weird, it comes off as an insult. Well, to all those who have ever been called weird, I salute and respect you for several reasons.
1. Your uniqueness.
Dr. Seuss could not have said it any better. You are truly your own person and carry on how you like. You are true to yourself and your beliefs, and you don't let others bring you down. You're an independent woman who don't need no man!
2. Your confidence.
If you're confident enough to dress exactly how you want and feel comfortable and confident in your own skin, I salute you. Your confidence literally radiates from you.
3. You're talented.
If you've been tagged as weird for doing what you love and excelling in it, this one is for you. Don't ever let people keep you from your passion because they think it isn't "cool." Keep doing your "thing" because many people appreciate your "thing."
4. You can stand up for yourself.
If you've been tagged as weird, chances are you've been teased or tormented for being you. Through it all, you've learned how to stand up for yourself. With skin thicker than Kim Kardashian's...well, you know...you're able to ignore the haters.
5. Just all around fun.
Let's face it — we are all a little weird in our own ways. Once we accept our personal weirdness, we can truly connect with ourselves and life. The best of time are when we are with people who have mutual weirdness. Not a care in the world is given, and we live to enjoy that moment.
Moments that will become memories that will last a lifetime. Once again, the beloved Dr. Seuss couldn't say it any better: "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."
