These days, it's so easy to become a fiery storm of sarcasm and negative energy. Just look at the news, or possibly your hometown. There's bad things happening everywhere. Turn on the TV or view any form of popular media, you'll see optimism isn't really in fashion or sexy. However, I tend to believe that optimism is freaking sexy and totally a cool thing that we should all be doing, OK? This is why I've taken it upon myself to go on a mission. And that mission is one of relentless optimism. Optimism by definition, is "hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something." Isn't that something we ALL should want?

Being an honest and true optimist is hard work. My definition of an optimist is seeing the ugliness in front of you and befriending it. Working with it and sending it all your love until there is positive change. That's my definition. Optimism, in it's rawest form, is remaining positive when you're in the storm. When we combine realism with a positive mindset, we allow ourselves to see the situation unfold, while still remaining dutiful leaders in optimism.I don't get why positive attitudes are frowned upon nowadays. Smiling at the cashier that was nice to you and wishing them a good day, tipping your hairdresser well because they made your hair look amazing, helping that elderly lady with her groceries. These are things that shouldn't even cross our mind. We should just do them. The desire to spread that smile to those around you, and better the world somehow, certainly doesn't make you lame.
I will keep doing my best to remain a positive force, despite some people wanting the exact opposite. It's easy to be a negative force, but since when did easy ever produce good results? Putting in that extra effort to be an optimist is so worth it. Because in the end, life is about what you give. What did you do to make a difference? Did you make someone smile? Check. Proofread a friends essay? Check. Did you remain positive despite life throwing everything it has at you? All the checks for you my friend. So to my fellow relentless optimists out there, keep smiling if you're happy. Keep being nice to people. Keep wanting to empower those around you. Because in all honesty, optimism keeps the world turning. And isn't that something that we all want? Yes, yes it is, I hope.
Life happens when we choose to be active participants towards change and improvement. We can't do that without optimism. And no matter how lame or not sexy being a nice human being makes me, I will relentlessly remain an optimist.
