5 Reasons Why Reality Shows Ruin T.V.
One of my biggest pet peeves, besides people who consume food too loudly and lick their fingers before handing me cash, is reality television. Although it’s entertaining for this generation, this guilty pleasure is taking up too many channels. I almost feel embarrassed stopping on these shows while flipping through the channels. After watching an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” out of sheer curiosity, I felt my face muscles turn into a consistent frown and was irritated by the fact this show even gets ratings.
1.They are the farthest thing from reality.
Since when did materialistic lifestyles and plastic surgery become reality? These shows could not be further from life in the actual world. I font know about anyone else but I know I couldn’t spend all day in a hot tub, and then dropping five hundred dollars on a designer purse. Some of us have responsibilities and bills to pay. If you want an actual reality show, document yourself walking around for the day with your smartphone.
2.Totally fake and scripted.
Nothing says reality more than a pre-determined plot and script, right? You may as well invest your time in an elaborate and creative plot of a fictional series. It takes no brain activity to watch Kim Kardashian pick out which ridiculously expensive outfit to wear to her next photoshoot.
3.Totally un-educational.
Personally, fictional shows which contain an intricate plot and a laundry list of talented actors would be ideal. Even a scientific documentary on how this planet formed would catch my attention. I feel as though my IQ drops every time I see someone trying to find their soulmate, five minutes after meeting the contestants. I haven’t seen anything so fake since the 2016 presidential candidates took the podium.
4.Un-motivating and pointless.
There’s no value watching these shows, and even the entertainment aspect begins to wear off. I’m almost insulting talented actors by not supporting their shows and changing the channel. If some of these celebrities weren’t famous, we wouldn’t even give them a second thought. My time feels wasted when I invest even ten minutes into these shows.
5.Discourages its viewers.
Don’t waste your time feeling despair over comparing your income to talentless “actors” who make money off of its viewers. The unrealistic nature of reality television, is the fact that the real, average person, doesn’t compare. This discredits the show in itself, making it un-relatable to pretty much its entire population of viewers. It’s downright depressing watching people who are famous for no reason. Spending insane amounts of money on anything they desire, while its viewers are putting in the hours and making minimum wage. But don’t be too down on yourself, at least your everyday routine doesn’t require a script and camera crew.
