Like a best friend, my t-shirt collection has been there on my good days and my bad days. The days I can't decide what to wear. The days I don't feel like wearing real clothes. The days I want to wear no pants without getting weird stares – just kidding. Or am I?
College campuses all over the country are encompassed with the not-so-new trend of the oversized tee. To the younger and older generation, it looks odd, possibly even crazy. But to us, it just feels right. Spend your next chore day wearing an oversized tee, and tell me it didn't help you make it through vacuuming the house and scrubbing the toilet. Or spend your next exam wearing a shirt so big you can't see your athletic shorts, and tell me you weren't more comfortable. Or go to the gym and instead of wearing your favorite tight, nike workout shirt, try out a shirt that won't cling to you or show off the real reason you are at the gym.
Oversized tees get a bad rep. They look lazy, unprofessional, and silly. I accept that and that is why you won't see me wearing one to a job interview, but before and after the stressful interview can you guess what I'm wearing? You bet.
I am a human and there are days when I want to eat nachos and not worry about watching my stomach bloat as I consume them. There are days I want to watch Netflix until I can't stare at the screen any longer and not be uncomfortable. There are days I don't want to wear a real bra (don't lie – you know they are uncomfortable). There are days when I just don't feel like putting in the effort to look awesome for my Biology exam. There are days for yard work, for studying, for the pool, and for no pants.
So sure, laugh at us in our clothes that don't fit, but we'll laugh with you because we are 10 times more comfortable in our oversized t-shirts and in our own skin.
So shout out to Comfort Colors for inventing the item of clothing that gets me through my worst days and let's me be free to have fun on my best. So, before you judge the trend, give it a try. You'll be so glad you did.
Did I mention they make sweatshirts and tank tops, too?
