Why New York City Is The Best City In The World

Why New York City Is The Best City In The World

Ah, The Big Apple, the city that never sleeps. Whatever name you refer to it as, New York City has earned its place as one of the best cities in the world. Everyone should take a trip to New York City at least once in their life. There are millions of reasons why New York is great, but here is what makes New York City the absolute best city in the world:

1. $1 pizzas

New York is famous for their pizza style, and the fact that you can get an amazing slice of pizza for a dollar is incredible. There are tons to choose from in midtown and downtown, but 2 Bro's Pizza has the best dollar slice I've ever had.

2. Each block is different

Unlike walking in most places, every corner is a new layout. The buildings are all different colors and sizes and have different murals painted onto them. Which are great for artsy Instagram posts. There is so much to look at and so much on the streets that it's hard to be bored on your daily walk to work. You can't help but opt to walk for the awesome views.

3. There are free concerts every day

While you aren't going to see Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran singing on the subway platform, you can hear some awesome musicians playing a variety of instruments. Not only can you see awesome musicians, there are also a ton of amazing street performers. From bubble machines to cartoonists, New York has it all.

4. You never have to worry about missing your favorite artist

No matter how popular your favorite singer or band is, you can always find at least one New York tour date. Home to many concert venues, New York welcomes all musicians.

5. You never run out of things to do

There's a reason why New York is called the city that never sleeps. There is literally always something to do. You can literally walk a few blocks and see a movie in the park screening, a yoga in the park class, and a water gun fight all in the same park. If going out and searching for things to do isn't your thing, there's always Google.

6. Shopping

You're more likely to spend more money than you had originally planned, but it's hard to resist when you're walking down Fashion Avenue with tons of beautiful window displays to go in and see if they have that shirt in your size. The fact that if your shopping order is under $110 you don't have to pay sales tax also makes it that much better.

7. Fashion

You can wear literally anything you want and it pretty much doesn't look crazy in the city. You wanna wear a bag on your head? Go for it. Just saw a furry purple and orange sweater that you wanna wear to the bar this weekend? Rock it. Don't wanna wear any clothes at all? You can head down to Times Square and join the Naked Cowboy. New York is a constant catwalk of thousands of clothes trends.

8. The people you meet

New Yorkers have a reputation of being rude, but that's part of the New York experience! It would be totally different if everyone was nice and friendly. Millions of people visit and move to New York City, so it's super easy to meet people from all over the world.

9. The food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, New York has any type of food you can think of in your reach. Walking down one block you'll find a pizza place, Asian food, and a gyro cart. Not only are the food possibilities endless, pretty much all the food is incredible.

10. The nightlife

Most of the bars and clubs close around 4 A.M. here, so it's easy to go bar hopping on a Monday night after your midterm is over. You can go dance your buns off and then head to the all-night diners or one of the endless gyro carts to end your night.

11. The lights

Alicia Keys once sang "These lights will inspire you" in her and Jay-Z's song "New York." While the whole song is spot on with the New York atmosphere, these particular lyrics are so true. No matter where you are in New York City, there are lights everywhere. You can't help but stop and stare in amazement. There's just something about being in the city that inspires you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
