Why Nature Makes You Happy

If you’re anything like me, then you’re happiest outdoors. No matter if it’s super hot or freezing cold, full of sunshine or even pouring rain. Whether you’re alone or with a friend it always seems to bring your spirits up. You can’t seem to find anything that brings you as much joy. More people should start to go outside, and I don’t mean go outside just to run to your car, but really go outside. People need to take a moment for themselves and enjoy what nature has to offer. Being outside always seems to boost people’s moods, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much. But what is it about nature that causes people to have a heightened sense of well-being? Here is my list on why I believe nature brings such joy into peoples' lives.

Nature brings a sense of calmness.

Life can seem to be quite overwhelming. Especially when you have school, work, and extracurricular activities taking over most of your days. When you take a moment to go outdoors, and relax you feel an outstanding sense of calmness and silence which allows you to relax. Take a moment, disconnect.

Nature is beautiful.

Looking around at all of the nature that surrounds us puts you in awe. From the tree in your backyard to a forest. Watching the sunrise or set over the horizon is one of the most beautiful things you will ever see. Thinking about how plants and animals coexist and help each other to survive is mesmerizing. Being surrounded by so much beauty makes you feel whole and elated.

Nature gives you energy.

After being cooped up in the house for a while, you finally decide go outside. You get a rush of energy as soon as you start breathing in the fresh air, feeling the sun on your face and having the wind blow through your hair. All of these wake you up and give you energy to last throughout your day. Nothing is worse than a tired and grumpy person, get outside and feel alive!

Nature gives you a sense of self.

Being in nature allows you to focus on you and your spirit. It gives you a moment to reflect on your life and see that life is beautiful. You feel connected to nature and everything in it. You have a purpose in this world and allowing yourself to bring in and feel nature allows you to realize that. If you allow nature to take away your problems, even for only a moment, you will feel such a huge sense of relief.

So take a moment, to go outside. I guarantee you will feel like a happier, more positive person.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
