Growing up my sister and I had our ups and downs, but really who doesn't have their ups and downs? She was a tomboy and I liked anything that involved the color pink and glitter. As we went through school we began to realize how different we really were. I would wake up an hour and a half early so I could do my hair and makeup before school; she would roll out of bed five minutes before we had to leave. I liked going out with my friends; she preferred staying in and studying. I never planned anything out; she had about 25 sticky notes with lists of things she needed to get done. Not to mention the fights before school whenever she'd try to sneak out of the house in my favorite sweater; I ultimately would give up and she'd get her way every time.
These differences are actually what helped us become so close to one another. I was terrible at math and she was great at it so she would help me with my homework. She wasn't good at English and that was my best subject so I was able to help her write papers. We were even able to help each other socially. She made me stay in and study when she knew I had a big test even though all of my friends were asking me to go out, and in return she allowed me to go overboard during homecoming and prom. After endless hours of me begging to do her make-up and telling her that fake eyelashes were a must have she finally gave in. She complained the whole time and told me that I applied too much makeup but she still let me do it anyway and kept it on all night.
Now we are in college, I was worried that since I picked the same college as my sister that I would be seeing her all the time and that we would be fighting non-stop, but it has been the exact opposite. She has helped make college feel like my home away from home. When I'm sick she lets me go to her apartment and take a hot bath while she makes me soup, she texts me at least once a week to see how I'm doing and to make sure that I'm not failing any classes. I go over to her place at least twice a week to vent and have a mental breakdown and she is always there to remind me that nothing is as bad as it seems.
She is my sister, my best friend, and my other half. I would be totally and utterly lost without her. Your sister is one of your biggest support systems and we should appreciate everything that they do for us.
