When I decided to go through sorority recruitment I had no idea what to expect. None of my family members had been Greek and I wasn't really even sure if I wanted to accept a bid, I just wanted the experience. Now as I am about to start my junior year of college, I realize that joining my sorority was one of the best decisions I have ever made. But, despite the formals, the leadership skills, and the countless memories, one of the best things my sorority gave me is my sorority family.
While everyone has a really close relationship with their big or little, I am so blessed to say that I have the same close relationship with every single person in my family.
1. They are some of my best supporters.
Whenever something exciting happens, they are one of the firsts to celebrate. It could be nailing an awesome internship or as simple as getting an A on a test. It says a lot about a person when they get more excited than you do about your own accomplishments.
2. The family group message is always interesting.
Being apart from each other all summer has been rough, but there's always something fun going on in the family group message. For example, my niece explaining how she got kicked out of Dollar General for being mistaken for the local meth head. Could always be worse ladies.
3. There is literally always someone to go eat with.
I can't speak for other families in my sorority, but in mine, we always got to find time to eat. With a huge family that you are close with, there is always someone to go grab some chicken nuggets with you. And they won't judge you when you get a 12 count nugget instead of an eight count nugget. We've all been there.
4. I am not close to just sisters who are my age.
I love my pledge sisters, but because I am so close to everyone in my family I have options. If I wanted to be crazy and act like a freshman again, I know I can always count on my little or my nieces to let me hang out with them. But if I wanted to talk about my career aspirations I knew I could also call my grand-big who was about to graduate into the grown up world.
5. Last but not least, they have made my time in college unforgettable.
They are the girls I am going to remember the most when I leave college, and I can't thank them enough for that.
Can't wait to add to the royal fam this fall!
