6 Reasons Why I Love My Sorority

Coming back to college is what we wait for all summer. We're excited to reunite with friends after a long three months but the one thing I get excited for, over anything else, is to reunite with my sisters. With recruitment season right on our tails, I want to highlight why going Greek and choosing my sorority has been the best decision I've made at college.

1. It gives me my home away from home.

Going away to a college six hours away from home was tough in the beginning. When I joined my sorority I instantly got the feeling that I belonged to a home and had a second family here that made me feel comfortable.

2. I have a constant support system.

No matter what I do, I know that I have a group of best friends that have my back. I know that I can confide in any of my sisters and that they will support me in anything that I do. At times when things aren't going well, my sisters are my "rocks."

3. I am a part of something bigger than I can understand.

With hundreds of chapters around the nation, my sorority is something bigger than I ever thought I would have the chance to be a part of. Although I may not personally know some of my sisters from other parts of the country, sisterhood still exists. Through our philanthropies, we are able to make differences in peoples lives around the country and the world.

4. I love each and every one of the girls in my chapter.

I feel so lucky that I have a good relationship with all of my sisters and can truly call all of them best friends. As mentioned previously, they are always there for me, can never fail to make me laugh, and I couldn't imagine my college experience without them.

5. It's a commitment for life.

Greek life doesn't end the second you graduate college. Or the month after, or even a year after. You're in your sorority for life. This is one of the things I love the most because it allows me to make true, lifetime friendships. When older sisters graduate, you don't lose contact with them. This is where you meet your bridesmaids.

6. I was able to find out who I really am.

This is one of the staples of going away to college. With the help of my sorority, I was able to determine the things that I really care for and grow to be the best person I can really be.

From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. From the inside looking out, you can't explain it. My sorority and my sisters have been the best part of my college experience and I can't imagine what life would be without them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
