Greek life is not just about all the fun parties you are invited to, but rather a family of fraternities and sororities that are behind you every step of the way. Just like any group of friends may have their differences Greek life also does, except those differences are put aside for the common good of all. The bond between Greeks may be the strongest bond ever! Especially within your own fraternity or sorority. Although joining Greek life, in the beginning, is incredibly overwhelming, it is also the best decision. When you join a sorority as a new member, you get a "big" (who is like a big sister and mentor). Someone you can go to for anything and be able to trust them, you basically become their own “mini me” which is AWESOME! Even better, is the fact that once you get your "big", you become a part of an adopted family of Greeks within your Greek family. All the Greeks, no matter which sorority or fraternity, are somehow intermingled with one another to create little families within one huge family! Your "big" also has a "big" which becomes your "g-big" and the list just keeps growing.
When you join a sorority, trust me when I say this, you want to have a great relationship with your "big." I go to my "big" for everything, and not only her but my "g-big" as well. They became my family while away at school. I know that I can tell them something, and it will stay between us. Coming from a person who does not have many friends that are girls, I can honestly say I’m glad to have my "big" and "g-big" by my side.
The bond you have with your family is a bond like no other. I’m so thankful for the Greek family I was given and the fact we all get along and can hang out. When I need to vent to someone, they are always just a phone call or text away. I can count on them for anything and everything. We do have our differences in opinions, but we also know when we speak our minds and tell the truth. The truth is only to help each other in the end and not put one another down. It may take a couple of days to see where the other is coming from when saying something to another, but we always come around.
So here’s to the countless nights we stay up laughing and talking about nothing. To us crying about stuff that may seem like our world is falling apart within that given moment. To the late night food runs, and the random baking days. To the “I’m coming over” text messages that make your day when you need them most. I would not trade my Greek family for the world. Most of all here's to the girls that will always be by my side, love you!!
