Well, daddy, I don’t think that I tell you enough, but truth is, you’re a rockstar. It's a shame that Father's Day only rolls around once a year because you should be thanked and celebrated daily. You have taught me so much throughout the course of my life, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without you. You have led our family with love and taught me respect and patience. This is for you, I hope you know all of these to be true.

1. You are tolerant of me (most of the time).

I know I can be a handful sometimes, so thank you for teaching me grace and patience. I hope you never grow tired of me singing way too loud in the car or laughing too hard at my own jokes.

2. I have seen God work through you.

God has worked in some amazing ways in you, and we are all better for it. Thank you for showing me the power of our Father, and where my hope lies.

3. You have the best smile.

You light up a room with that big, genuine grin of yours.

4. You taught me the rewards of hard work.

I have never met a more hardworking, dedicated, and devoted man in my life. Thank you for always teaching me to go after what I want, and work for the results I desire.

5. I know you always want the best for me.

No matter what happens, or how frustrated I become, I still know this to be true. From the moment I was born, into adulthood, I know that you are always there to support me on my journey through whatever life brings.

6. You make me laugh.

Someday, when I’m old and grey, I know that some of my favorite memories will always be laughing with you. Even if your cheesy jokes still need a little help.

7. You have shown me the importance of discipline.

You always did say: “Someday you’ll thank me…” And now I am. Thank you for not letting me do some of the things I asked permission to do. While I may have sulked and pouted about it then, but I really do appreciate it now. I think that I am better because of it.

8. You have been there for me at my lowest points.

You have always been my shoulder to cry on.

9. But you have been there to celebrate my highest.

You’ve always been the first to lift me up on your shoulders in moments of victory.

10. You have shown me what love looks like.

Because of the way you talk about and treat mom, I know what love looks like. I hope that my future husband loves me the way that you love her. Thank you for showing me how a husband should love his wife.

So there you have it, dad. Ten reasons why you’re my hero. Thank you for being you; I’m forever lucky to have you as my dad.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
