Why My Cat Is My Best Friend

I'm already an old cat lady at 19.

There’s a special bond between pets and pet owners. It’s an undeniable, unconditional affection. No matter what my cat does, I always find myself forgiving him two minutes later. Whether it's making a total mess or meowing at odd hours of the morning, my frustration goes away pretty quickly when he gives me that look. Every pet owner knows that look. They just look so darn cute and sad and you forget whatever it was you were mad about. That means that my cat and I have a very good relationship. Here are some reasons why I consider my cat to be my best friend....

He’s always willing to take naps with me.

Ask any other friend to take naps with you and they may think it’s a little odd. Not my cat. He’s always down for a nice group nap. He'll sometimes try to steal my pillow or lie on my hair, but those are just minor nuisances.

Whenever my cat gets angry at me, I always know that by dinner time we’re good.

This actually happens quite a bit. He'll do something extra annoying and we'll both be angry. He’s not going to risk his dinner for a silly feud we had. He’s going to apologize and get over it because he knows that I’m the one with opposable thumbs.

I never have to worry about where he is or what he’s doing.

With any other friend, if they're running 10 minutes late, I'm constantly checking my phone and wondering what the heck happened to them. Not with my cat though. I know all of his favorite hiding spots. No matter how sneaky he thinks he's being, I know.

He’s (usually) down for a cuddle.

Whenever I’m needing some love, he’s typically willing to give it. He likes attention too much to pass up an opportunity to get pet and cuddled. Or at least... most of the time.

My cat’s the best listener.

Whenever I just need to let my anger and frustration out on the world, he’s there to listen, no matter if it's 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 a.m.. As long as it isn’t interrupting a nap, he’ll listen to my rants without ever interrupting.

My cat’s always up for a night in.

He never demands to go out and party on the weekend. I don't have to get all dressed up for him and worry about what to wear or how to do my hair. He and I are very much alike in that we will always prefer to pig out, watch a movie, and head to bed early.

My cat doesn’t judge me.

If I wear the same pair of jeans three days in a row, he couldn’t care in the slightest. If I eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I can almost hear him saying “same.” I know that no matter what, he really doesn’t care at all what I do as long as he gets food and attention.

Other friends are just so demanding. My cat's pretty low maintenance and I'm the same way. That's why we get along so well and why I just have to include my cat in my list of best friends. Because who else would be willing to stay in bed with me all day, watch a whole season of "Criminal Minds," and only get up for food breaks? Let me tell you, not very many humans.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
