Without music, where would the world be?

Music is a universal language. It can bring us back to happiness or help us through a tough time by letting us have a good cry. It can also bring back great memories and make us laugh, as well as give us a sense of calm after a stressful day. How boring would rides in the car be without music? Not that talking to people while you drive isn't a good idea. But listening to music makes any long drive worth it. Nothing is better than jamming to your favorite music in the car. It's a way to relieve stress and can ultimately change your mood.

Some people can even play music. Playing music is another great way to lift someone’s spirits. If you love to play music, don’t ever let anyone stop you from playing your favorite songs.

I have so many genres of music that I enjoy listening to that it's impossible for me to pick just one favorite. My tastes in music range from Carrie Underwood, to Kelly Clarkson to Bob Seger as well as Aerosmith, and Genesis, to Christian bands such as Third Day and MercyMe.I even listen to rap sometimes if I feel the need to hear good rhymes. I’m always in the mood for something different.

Some mornings I can listen to Fleetwood Mac and then by the end of class I’m blasting Disney Soundtracks. It depends on the feeling that I have for any given day. Some mornings I want to listen to rock music to wake me up, and then I want a slow love song, to calm me down after a hard class.

I find that when I watch certain movies, I end up listening to the soundtrack that goes along with that movie, for hours after the movie ends. Soundtracks have always inspired me to try and write lyrics and lyrics myself. I’m good with the lyrics, but writing the melody is another story.

Music can take people to a special place and time, no matter where they may be. It can take anybody back to a love they once felt for someone, or remind them of hard times they faced head on with someone by their side. It allows people to day-dream of their future such as with the song ”You Can’t Hurry Love” By Phil Collins and remind them of people they love with, “She’s Like The Wind”, by Patrick Swayze as well as motivate them to make plans for their future, such as the theme song from Rocky, “Eye of the Tiger.”

I find that if I don’t listen to music every day, I don’t have the same lift in my spirit, as I do when I listen to music. I can never get enough of music. I grew up in a family that was always listening to music, no matter the time of day, whether it was classical music, worship music or rock and roll. We can’t forget Christmas music during December either. It’s not “the most wonderful time of the year”, without Christmas music.

Music can lift people up in a way that can only be explained by each individual person. Each person experiences music differently. I feel the music and it moves me. So don’t let anything hold you back from enjoying your favorite songs, no matter what they might be. Everyone has a privilege to enjoy their favorite type of music.

“One thing good about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." -Bob Marley.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
