5 Reasons Morning Jogs Are Amazing

To start off, I like getting up early in the morning to begin with. I get questioned about it, sure. It’s kind of unheard of for a college kid, but what can I say? I do it anyway. Half of the reason I love doing it is I get to take morning jogs outside. It is by far one of my favorite things to do; for me, the earlier the better. In the winter I get stuck on a treadmill, but once it gets warmer I’m all over it. So, if you have never jogged in the morning or have been trying to go for runs but can’t find the motivation, here are some great reasons why morning jogs are incredible.

Blasting your music.

If you forget your music (at least in my experience) you might as well quit there. I’m kidding, but not really, because music is the number one reason taking jogs are fun; especially in the morning, when you are outside, music can motivate you so much. I usually make a playlist of some really upbeat punk songs because they give me that fast-paced motivation with just enough edge to keep me going even when I get a little bit tired. I say the louder the music the better -- wear those obnoxiously big headphones proudly and make that playlist.

Wake up before anyone else.

When I write things like this, I never know if I’m just speaking for myself or if other people actually understand my mentality. Oh well, I’m going to assume I’m not the only one who feels this way and move on. The feeling of waking up before the rest of the world is highly underrated. Not many people are outside at 7 a.m., so it seems like you’re the only one awake, and it's a feeling I love so much.

Makes you forget about everything else.

This may be jogging in general, but when I wake up early in the morning, put my headphones on and start jogging, I forget about everything else that's going on. Considering that the morning is usually when all the thoughts about the day ahead kick in, why not take an hour or so to just not think about it?

Everything is prettier in the early morning.

If you haven’t been awake really early in awhile, you probably forgot how beautiful everything is. The sun is just rising, there is a little chill in the air and chances are the sky is different colors. Looking around is so much more eventful, and considering that I have the privilege of being able to run to the beach, the view could not be more amazing. This is an actual picture I took last week in the morning when I ran to the beach.

Starts your day off amazing.

So you got up at 7 a.m. You ran for awhile. You are finally back, showered and eating breakfast. Think about it: you have the entire day ahead of you to get things done or relax. And it’s only maybe 8:30 a.m. Chances are you're awake before most college kids and you already did all that. That’s another one of the best feelings. It makes you feel like you have your life together, right?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
