Your Heart Will Never Be The Same

Why Mockingjay Part 2 Tears You Apart

*Spoiler Alert*

If you have not read the book or seen the movie yet, do not continue reading!

Never before has a movie series left me with so many emotions. As the Hunger Games trilogy comes to a conclusion with its final movie, Mockingjay Part 2, let’s review the top ten moments that tugged on our heartstrings a little too much. You might want to grab a tissue box.

Katniss’ desire to make Snow pay

Watching Peeta tell Katniss he would have saved himself a lot of heartache if he had given the bread to the pigs caused us a lot of heartache. We all wanted to storm the Capitol with Katniss to kill President Snow. There is not enough suffering in the world for him to feel what we were feeling.

Real or not real?

“Real. That’s what you and I do. Keep each other alive.” Peeta is so good and kind and he loves Katniss so much. This poor boy deserves so much better than to have all his memories of the girl he loves tainted with fear. It breaks our heart to watch him struggle against his own mind. We’re here for you Peeta.

Finnick and Annie’s wedding

For anyone who read the series, we knew what was coming. It seemed cruel to watch them celebrate something that would be ripped away from them so soon.

Katniss and Prim’s hug

Seeing these two sisters dance and smile at this wedding celebration, it broke our hearts when Katniss pulled Prim in for that hug. It was like she knew what was coming. We all did and everything about this scene ate away at our hearts.

Finnick’s death

No Finnick, no! Say it’s not so. It was terrible to know that Finnick survived so much, finally married Annie, only to watch his life end like this. It was even harder watching Katniss realize there was nothing she could do to save him from his fate.

Prim’s death

I don’t know that words are even needed here. We watched Primrose grow from an innocent girl, to a courageous young woman. She died a senseless death, trying to save the Capitol’s children with her medical skills. This is one death we will never get over.

Buttercup’s return

Does this darn cat never die? We laughed a little, then cried a lot. It was heartbreaking to watch Katniss finally break over Prim’s death. That was all we needed to turn into a weeping mess in our seats. If the screaming and crying wasn’t enough, her picking up the cat and hugging him as he purred certainly did it.

The end scene

A sunny meadow. A laughing child. A baby in her arms. Peeta, smiling in the golden light. What should be such a happy end scene leaves us with all the feels. Katniss endured so much loss and detestation to get here, and she tells the child in her arms how she continues to survive, “That’s when I make a list in my head of every act of goodness I’ve seen someone do. It’s like a game. Repetitive. Even a little tedious after more than twenty years. But there are much worse games to play.” We’re so happy she got some form of a happily ever after, but it’s all so bittersweet.

The credit music

As if the movie itself wasn’t bad enough! The first song that comes on as the credits roll is the same song Katniss comforted Prim with at the start of the original movie. The same song Katniss sang to Rue as she died. A reminder of all the innocence and all the lives lost throughout this series. Cue the tears again. Why would you do this to us??

The end of the series

This was the final movie of the Hunger Games series. As sad as the movie was, it was even sadder to realize that there won’t be another. While I don’t think our hearts could take another movie, we will forever want more.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
