Why I Love Being A Journalism Major
Weheartit

When I first started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, I decided I wanted to be a teacher. I could not imagine anything else that I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. Then I started singing, and I realized that I could do that for the rest of my life as well. That was a dream of mine for a very long time. I even went as far as auditioning for X-Factor when it was still in the USA. But now, I am a Journalism major and I love it a lot...

I read an article from someone who has the same major as I do, expressing her frustrations surrounding it. It inspired me to talk about why I love my major. Granted, I have only taken one class within my requirements, but I still know that this major is one with so many opportunities. The thing is that this major grants you many different career options. I can go into public relations, or news broadcasting, radio broadcasting, written journalism, and whatever other options it opens. There is also the fact that with this career path I could get the chance to meet some really amazing people; that is always a plus.

I took Introduction to Communications 101 in my first semester of college, and while I did not need that for my major, it gave me a look into everything. I now know even more that I love mass communication. Social media and the messages sent out through it is something that greatly interests me. My major gives me the chance to explore that further.

Of course, if I do not explore anything further, studying mass communications could still allow me to go for something like news journalism. I could work for a newspaper and just write articles that went to the people of a specific place. Although that is probably still considered mass communication, it is on a smaller scale.

Some may think that having a major that is just Communications would be better than this one. I disagree. I think that having a major that is too broad can be really harmful. It gives you a lot of options that you have to pick from. Journalism is a little more focused than that.

I want to graduate college with two internships to my name--or at least one really awesome one. It is a requirement at my school, anyway, but I am so excited to explore everything that my major has to offer. Being a Journalism major at my school, in Charlotte, has so much promise for me. There is so much that I can do while I am still in school. I have seen an internship offered by Billboard for students wanting to go into this career path. Unfortunately, I am still only a freshman and cannot take it yet, so I did not apply.

Out of all the majors that I could have chosen, I am so glad that I picked this one. When I first started writing for "Teens and Twenties" in my hometown in high school, I did not think I would make that my career path. Here I am though, a few years later, doing everything that I can to make this the best choice I have made for myself. Being a Journalism major is amazing--and not just because of the vast amounts of information you have the chance to uncover once you actually start your career. Or, if you are like me, you are already looking into the PR strategies and journalism strategies that people use to market to specific audiences and tell specific stories.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
