Why Long Island Is The Best Part Of New York

There are so many great parts of New York. It is such a big state and within it's size there comes all different types of environments. Here is a couple of reasons why I believe Long Island is the best part of New York.

1. The bagels.

The bagels on Long Island are like no other. Once you get off the island the bagels are just not the same. Long Islanders can really tell the difference once you have a bagel that isn't from Long Island!

2. We are so lucky to live just a train ride away from New York City.

People on Long Island have the advantage of living a suburban and rural life because the city life is only one or two hours away from their home! That is the greatest advantage when wanting to visit for the day or weekend.

3. The Hampton Beaches.

The beaches on Long Island are great. But going out to the Hamptons is beautiful! Their beaches are a lot different than the ones more west on the Island. They are more spread out with a more beachy feel!

4. The Chinese food is not the same in other places.

Whenever you leave Long Island and have Chinese food in another part of New York or even another state, you think to yourself: Do people really think this is good? There is truly nothing like the Chinese food we have here on Long Island.

5. The North Fork of Long Island

The North Fork of Long Island is beautiful! If you like rocky beaches this is the place for you! The senoritas are so magical! Throughout the villages of Cutchogue and Southold you will find farm stands, beaches, vineyards and fields of fruits and vegetables!

6. The amount of pumpkin patches and apple picking is unreal during the fall time!

No matter if you are on the eastern end of Long Island or western, there are so many fun activities to do during the fall season. You can go apple picking, pumpkin picking and go on hay rides! It is even more fun because the weather starts to get a little cooler, the leaves fall off the trees and it finally seems like fall is coming around once again!

7. The pizza.

The pizza is not the same when you leave Long Island. The pizza in New York City is great, but once you start heading to upstate New York, it just isn't the same great tasting pizza us Long Islanders know and love!

8. If you are looking for a great mall then Roosevelt Field is the place to be!

Where I live, Roosevelt Field Mall is not around the corner, but the great thing about where it's located is that it's only about 50 minutes from the eastern part of Long Island. So when in need of a shopping day, this is the ideal mall!

9. Port Jeff is so much fun to walk around during the day or night.

Port Jeff is a great place to spend time with friends and family. With it being right by the water, the atmosphere is beyond fantastic!

10. Montauk Point!

Touring the Montauk Lighthouse is a great activity to do within the summer season and fall time also! Long Island is known for this lighthouse.

11. It is a must to attend a concert at Jones Beach.

How awesome is it to say in your state that you have a concert arena in back of a beach?! Jones beach concerts are essential as a Long Islander!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
