Why Letting Go Is The Best Thing For You Right Now

Letting go of that person you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with, or at least a few years, is one of the hardest things to do, especially for people our age. We hold on to these people - or I guess, the ideas of these people, that are perfect to us. They make us feel whole and happy, and because we have grown up on the idea that love is someone who completes you and who makes you happy, we don't want to let go when it doesn't work out. Why would we? In our minds we don't think something so great can happen again, and again. Also, we hold on because when it didn't work out between you, that opened the possibility that it could work out with someone else. That someone else can make them happier than you did. So that's why we hold on so tight because we don't want to lose that perfect person or for them to find someone who they think is perfect, who is not us.

Now, this is why it's OK to let go. It's OK to let go because there is a reason why it didn't work out. Obviously that person is not who you're supposed to end up with, which is OK because now you're closer to finding the person you're meant for. We look for people to complete us but forget to realize that we are complete ourselves. We don't need someone to become who we are meant to be, but instead we have people who help us become who we are meant to be, some people more serious than others.

Our society right now teaches us that we live in a "hook-up" culture. No one wants labels or feelings or whatever nonsense they are scared of because of a bad break up. Hooking up is easy and fun and no one gets hurt, or at least that's how it's advertised. Surprisingly, there are still some who don't want to just "hook-up" or "Netflix and chill." Some people are actually brave enough to put themselves out there and look for something that means more. I think when you find someone who wants to be with only you and wants more, you hold on for dear life because you don't expect to find someone in this society that wants what you want.

When it comes to letting go, we never realize how selfish we are for holding on. We hold on for us, not for them. We don't want ourselves to lose that person and especially don't want someone else making them happier, so we hold on. But maybe letting go is also selfish towards ourselves. We look at ourselves like we are less than our worth, as if we are not good enough for these people we love, so we hold on because there's no way someone like us can get any better - until we do. No one likes to put themselves in a position where they can lose, but I think that's what we have to do if we really want to find and get love. Therefore, letting go is unnerving and upsetting and the last thing someone like us wants to do, but we must. Just remember - every time we let go of one person, another person is waiting to hold us. Losing one person when you're 18-23 doesn't mean you lose anything -- it means you're closer to gaining everything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
