Why Leslie Knope Is My Spirit Animal
Meagan Fisher

"Oh Ann, you beautiful tropical fish"

Sound familiar?

Leslie Knope has been one of the most influential female role models on Tv. She represents feminism, hard work and dedication, loyalty to your friends, and most of all, waffles.

You can say what you want about my role model being created by NBC, but Leslie is the best dreampt up example of what my 1st grade dream journal said.

I have 5 reasons to convince you why she should be your spirit animal.

Reason 1: Love your friends

Leslie Knope knows how to cherish her friends. She stands by everyone of her friends throughout the seasons of the show, "not being there" isn't in her vocabulary. She teaches us to give our friends compliments, make banners for special occasions, and get thoughtful gifts for the people we care about. Love your friends the way Leslie loves Ann Perkins "Her beautiful sunflower".

Reason 2: Hard Work

Leslie is one of the most determined people iv'e ever seen and because of that she constantly pushes and does the amount of work for 5 people.

Sleep is highly overrated, i would especially know because this statement applies to the very core of me. She teaches me to push on, work hard until theirs no more work to be done, never get bored and put your all into it.

Reason 2: Follow your dreams (as cliche as it sounds)

Despite the likability of Leslie, she definitely is faced with adversity but always stays classy and confident. She always wanted to be the first women on city council and she did it. She inspires me to face fear, whether its proving yourself in a mans world, or just building a park for ungrateful small town people she never stops believing in her dreams.

Reason 4: Be Bold With Your Choices

Leslie knows what she wants and she doesn't take no for an answer. She knows how to be effective and extremely decisive and sticks to her bold traditions.

And who really wants to argue that breakfast food isn't the best???

Reason 5: It's Okay To Be Yourself

Being true to who you are can be a statement that gets lost pretty easily, especially in the teenage years. Leslie Knope stands for everything that you should be, she is secure with her craziness, her over caring and her Ann Taylor pant suits. It turns out in the end she teaches all of us that being true to yourself and sharing that isn't a bad thing.

Leslie Barbara Knope is my spirit animal by far, and the fact that she loves her friends, works hard, follows her dreams and is bold and true to herself shows that she should be yours too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
