All The Reasons 'Legally Blonde' Accurately Represents Sorority Girls

While "Legally Blonde" may seem like a movie about a stereotypical dumb blonde in a sorority who somehow gets into Harvard, it is so much more. Sororities and Greek life as a whole sometimes tend to have negative connotations, while in reality there are many benefits to joining a Greek chapter. Elle Woods, in both of the "Legally Blonde" movies, is the perfect example of what us sorority girls are really like by showing the following.

We're different from one another.

At a big school where there are around 15 sororities, it is common to believe that girls in each house are all the same. Every sorority has girls with different interests and personalities that complement each other while making their chapter stronger.

We're willing to stay in on a Saturday to do work.

Yes, there are lots of parties and opportunities to go out, but it doesn't mean every girl goes out every night, or feels like they need to that often. Going to yet another themed event is not worth performing poorly on an important exam. As Elle said, “I worked so hard to get into law school. I blew off Greek week to study for the LSATs.”

We make great connections.

Networking and staying in touch with graduated sisters can lead to job opportunities, internships, or even just having something in common to talk about.

We raise awareness and fight for important causes.

Each chapter participates in extensive community service and holds philanthropy events, raising tons of money each year. These events can be really fun and can include anything from endless buffets to Zumba lessons!

We're smart.

Greek life possesses students with some of the highest grades on campus and there is a standard to which every member is held to in order to remain in their sorority or to join one in the first place. With that, every major is represented from girls studying education, to biology, to business.

We're creative.

While crafting is one of our specialties, we're creative in ways other than just painting paddles and coolers. We think of new, exciting ways to improve the chapters and campus as a whole.

We'll do anything for our sisters.

Whether it's asking for a ride, help studying, outfit advice, a share on Facebook or simply a like on Instagram, sisters will drop what they're doing to help each other.

We're leaders.

Apart from including members who are presidents of all kinds of clubs on campus, sororities offer so many leadership opportunities. The saying is true, you get as much from a sorority as you put into it. There are numerous positions to run or apply for, and you can be as involved as you want. I joined my sorority this past spring and already feel so much more confident speaking in front of others, expressing ideas and just being myself.

So before you judge sorority girls, here’s one last thing Elle Woods would advise.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
